Job Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the following non-clinical positions – Environmental Services, Linen Clerk, and Patient Transporter.
Dispatcher must provide excellent customer service to individuals contacting Environmental, Transport, and Linen Services department for request of services. Dispatchers will receive calls and dispatch to responsible department. Dispatcher is responsible for collecting request data to track work orders for services needed.
Essential Functions
- Operate communication systems, such as telephone, beeper, and two-way radio. Answer incoming calls, greeting callers, providing information, transferring calls and / or taking messages as necessary
- Collect request for Environmental, Transport, and Linen services with calls and / or work orders via Maintenance Care System.
- Must have the ability to use the computer, collect transport data and file documents.
- Page individuals to inform them of telephone calls, using paging and interoffice communication equipment.
- Follow-up with hospital staff regarding delay times, request updates, and entry errors.
- Must have excellent customer service skills, telephone etiquette, be poised and can remain calm under emergency or pressure situations.
- Must be able to multitask independently and work in a high stress environment.
- Individual must have the ability to manage activity and maintain accountability of activity through an organized documentation process.
Other Duties
Safely transport patients via beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and IV poles by adhering to Transport protocols, patient safety guidelines, infection control and general hospital safety standardsVerify two hospital approved identifiers for patient identification on each transportClean and disinfect transport equipment on all patient and transporter contact surfaces before and after each patient useDemonstrate proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact.Follow proper oxygen handling, if transporting a patient who requires.Demonstrate safe patient handling using proper body mechanics in lifting, transferring, and positioning patientsMaintain patient’s strict confidentiality (HIPAA) of all information and all matters concerning patients, physicians, and hospital personnel.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Minimum Education / Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Work Experience
Customer service experience and 1 year Dispatch experience.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed.
