POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of Manager, System Studies, the Senior Energy Assessment Engineer will be responsible for energy assessment activities related to the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) Enterprise work plan and other energy assessments as applicable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform energy assessments using commercially available software that considers production cost and resource adequacy as applicable.
  • Identify the need for enhanced energy assessments based on emerging reliability issues.
  • Present NPCC regional perspectives to ERO initiatives, committees, task forces, and working groups.
  • Develop relationships with NERC, Regional Entity, and stakeholder staff to enhance coordination efforts and improve existing processes and procedures.
  • Perform other ad hoc projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION / LICENSE CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of electric utility industry experience.
  • FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in performing energy assessments and resource adequacy studies is required.
  • Proficiency with assessment software tools such as SERVM, GE-MARS, PLEXOS, or equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge of transmission planning, power system modeling, steady state and transient stability studies, and short circuit studies are required. Experience with PSS / E, TARA, PowerWorld, or equivalent is desired.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple levels of management within NPCC, NERC, and stakeholder organizations.
  • Demonstrates acute attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in reviewing complex information, identifying inconsistencies, and maintaining high standards in deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail by effectively managing multiple priorities, structuring workflows, and maintaining thorough documentation across projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, ability to communicate verbally, and in writing, and ability to handle long periods of screen time.
  • Ability to work and travel within the U.S. and travel to Canada.
