Description\nSummary : \nA Registered Professional Dialysis Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position participates in the development and implementation of individualized and comprehensive plan of care for each patient, provides direct and indirect care to patients as it relates to their dialysis treatment, including pre- and post-assessments, and administrations of medications during dialysis. In addition, the Registered Professional Dialysis Nurse operates all dialysis equipment and supplies in accordance with hospital and departmental policy to provide expected patient outcomes and documents in the medical record accordingly.\nResponsibilities : \nDemonstrates appropriate hand hygiene, use of PPE, and facility hygiene, including cleaning and disinfection of work surfaces and equipment per hospital and department policies.\nOperates all available dialysis equipment and supplies based on safety, effectiveness, and cost in accordance with hospital and departmental policy to provide expected patient outcome; documents in the medical record and records changes appropriately.\nFollows policy and procedure in performance of water treatment procedures and testing; properly demonstrates electrolyte addition to acid concentrate per physician order.\nProvides documented pre- and post-dialysis nursing assessments that include, but are not limited to : patient weight and fluid removal calculations, lung sounds and presence of edema, vital signs, and review of current labs, assessment, and care of the dialysis access.\nObtains pre- and post-dialysis lab specimens per physician order and hospital / departmental policy.\nInitiates, monitors, and terminates each dialysis treatment per departmental policy and procedure.\nFollows hospital and departmental policy and procedure in response to dialysis-related complications, emergencies, and technical issues.\nFollows hospital and departmental policy and procedure in the administration of medications during dialysis.\nParticipates in the development and implementation of an individualized and comprehensive plan of care for each patient.\nRequirements : \nEducation / Skills\nGraduate of a Registered Nursing program, Bachelor Degree preferred\nExcellent customer service, negotiation, and communication skills\nExperience\nAt least 6 months of dialysis experience preferred\n12 months of acute clinical experience as a Registered Nurse required\nIntensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), Emergency Room (ER), or Medical Surgical (Med Surg) experience is preferred\nClinical patient care experience in a relevant setting, preferred\nPrevious healthcare management experience, preferred\nLicenses, Registrations, or Certifications\nRN license in good standing in state of employment or a compact state, if applicable\nRegistered Nurse (RN) required\nAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support\nCertification in Nephrology Nursing preferred\nA water Treatment Knowledge Exam - within twelve (12) weeks of employment\nA Hemodialysis Knowledge Exam- within twelve (12) weeks of employment\nCertification in Nephrology Nursing preferred, required within 1 year of eligibility to take the exam\nWork Schedule :
