Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob DescriptionPerform in-process and final Magnetic Particle (MT / MPI) inspections on firearm barrels, bolts, and other ferromagnetic components. Execute HPT → MT flow (proof-fire, then 100% MT) for both commercial (SAAMI) and DoD lots. Conduct system checks, interpret and document results to applicable standards and customer / contract requirements, and work under the technical direction of the Responsible Level III.Roles & ResponsibilitiesPerform MT inspections using bench / coil / central-conductor and yoke methods.Follow HPT → MT sequence on every barrel and bolt before acceptance (commercial and DoD).Run daily system controls (bath concentration, equipment function, UV-A / visible light levels, magnetizing current / coverage).Interpret indications to acceptance criteria (ASTM / ASME, customer specs / TDP; MIL-STD-1907 / 1916 when invoked) and record dispositions.Demagnetize parts and verify residual fields before release.Complete travelers, reports, defect maps / photos, and maintain lot / serial traceability.Support calibration and preventive maintenance for benches, yokes, meters, and gauges.Collaborate with Production / Engineering / QA to schedule work and resolve findings.Maintain safety, PPE, chemical handling, and housekeeping standards.Support Receiving, First Article, and In-process product manual Inspections as directedQualifications (Must-Have)Level II MT certification under SNT-TC-1A company-written practice.Working knowledge of ASTM E3024 / E3024M (industry practice) and ASTM E709 (guide); familiarity with ASME Section V, Article 7 when required.Ability to read drawings / GD&T and apply customer / contract / TDP acceptance criteria (including MIL-STD-1907 / 1916 when specified).Hands-on proficiency with MT benches / yokes, central conductors / fixtures, UV-A & visible light meters, gauss meter, QQIs / pie gauges.Current near-vision and color-vision compliance per written practice; strong documentation and attention to detail.Plus (Nice to Have)Small-arms manufacturing or defense-contract experience with post-proof MT on barrels / bolts.Familiarity with ASTM E1444 / E1444M (aerospace) or NAS-410Additional NDT qualifications (PT / VT / UT / ET Level I / II).Experience building or optimizing MT technique sheets for complex geometries (chamber, lugs, gas port region, breech threads, muzzle / crown).Additional Inspection experience, knowledge of GD&T, and the use of manual inspection tools (Calipers, Micrometers, etc.)Work EnvironmentStanding for extended periods; handling parts up to ~40 lb.; oils / particles; reduced ambient light for fluorescent MT; overtime / weekends as needed.ITAR / EAR compliance may apply.
