Job description

Purpose and Scope :

The Flight Line Manager is responsible to the Maintenance Manager for the safe, efficient, and economical performance of all assigned personnel. This position directs the day-to-day flight line activities required to prepare, launch, and recover aircraft, and assist the maintenance department as needed.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Supervise all Flight Line activities to include the preparation of aircraft for flight, the safe and timely launch and recovery of aircraft, aircraft fueling, aircraft towing, and the safe operation of support equipment, to include self-propelled support equipment and flight line vehicles.
  • Supervise assigned Flight Line personnel to ensure safe, on time completion of all work assigned and provide serviceable airworthy aircraft for scheduled operations.
  • Direct all activities performed by assigned work centers to ensure discipline, efficient utilization of assigned personnel, quantity and quality of production, and cleanliness of facilities during all shifts.
  • Ensure assigned personnel are qualified to perform tasks assigned to them. Increase assigned personnel technical knowledge by ensuring proper training is conducted by supervisors, Shift Leads, and Crew Leaders.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control and Quality Assurance as required.
  • Supervise aircraft fueling operations and ensure performance is in accordance with Company Policy and NAVAIR procedures.
  • Ensure all records and reports required by Maintenance Procedures and Processes are maintained properly and accurate. Ensure all reports are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Maintenance Control and down-line stations are aware of any Flight Line / Maintenance problems / issues.
  • Ensure the quality of work and proper documentation; making, if applicable, the necessary corrections prior to work completion.
  • Ensure and coordinate the provision of the required parts and materials to accomplish the tasks assigned.
  • Work with Maintenance Control to coordinate flight schedules and job tasks.
  • Accountable for the control and security of company property on the job site.
  • Determine work procedures and schedules.
  • Supervise and manage work center leaders and employees fairly and consistently. Address complaints, resolve problems, and recommend reward and discipline of employees IAW company and CBA policy.
  • Develop and comply with safety, health, and environmental standards. Ensure proper training of all personnel according to the training program developed for all positions / tasks in assigned Work Centers.
  • Participate in and support continuous improvement activities and systems.
  • Directly supervise up to 90 Flight Line personnel.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Five (5) years aircraft maintenance experience as an Aircraft Mechanic or Flight Line Supervisor. Ten (10) years supervisory experience is required.
  • Must have prior experience operating aircraft ground servicing equipment such as tugs, tractors, servicing carts, test equipment, hand tools, power tools, shears, rivet guns, and drills.
  • Must be able to pass any government and / or company licensing / qualification requirements for the position. Additional experience / education may be required by contract or assignment.
  • Position may require to obtain / maintain a US Security Clearance. NOTE : US Citizenship is required to obtain / maintain a United States Public Trust Clearance.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift or schedule.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
  • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and appropriate regulations.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and direct work objectives.
  • Ability to address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense along with the understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Maintain proper communication channels with personnel within the department by consistently holding meetings and participating in meetings as required by supervisors.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must possess knowledge / expertise in Flight Line Operations / Maintenance, including knowledge and experience on assigned or similar aircraft.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of applicable technical manuals, service bulletins, maintenance manuals, maintenance forms, and continuous inspection procedures.
  • Ability to organize and plan work assigned while adhering to deadlines with focus on attention to detail.
  • Must possess basic mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, and interpret instructions, technical manuals and / or directives including the ability to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language, and to follow and administer verbal and written instruction.
  • Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands :

    Generally, works in an out-of-doors environment exposed to seasonal weather from hot to cold and dry to rainy conditions, as well as a normal office environment. May be required to travel domestically as directed.
