Job Summary
The Crime Analyst will be responsible for collecting, organizing, and analyzing data describing crime patterns, crime trends, and potential suspects; compiles, reviews, and enters data associated with criminal activity. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of criminal justice procedures in order to assist law enforcement in identifying patterns, predicting future trends, and improving overall efficiency and effectiveness in combating crime.
Essential Duties
- Collect and analyze a variety of economic, geographic, or social information in support of crime analysis activities; utilize sources from various calls for service, census, demographic, crime mapping, and other related data; display informational analysis to police administrators.
- Utilize and become familiar with computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) systems and record management systems (RMS) to pull data regularly to prepare reports for the Chief of Police.
- Identify high crime locations, repeat calls for service, and provide recommendations that will help law enforcement and other entities work to solve the problem.
- Utilize various software to research, analyze, chart, graph, map, and report on specific data sets.
- Performs in-depth data analysis using data sets from various division databases related to offenses, calls for service, population demographics, and other metrics to create monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports.
- Perform a variety of investigative and field support tasks including crime prevention, communication relation activities and directed patrol operation reports to assist in identifying crime problems.
- Develop and test crime prediction and resource allocation models.
- Identify crime trends and patterns; assist in advising staff of areas of high crime probability.
- Plan, organize, and maintain subject matter files which may include the classifying, cross-referencing, and indexing of technically specialized subject matter, where files contain overlapping categories and proper processing requires analysis of several varying factors related to the subject matter (i.e., category of crimes, patterns, locations, time and dates, victims, etc.).
- Assist in developing and preparing charts, graphs, maps, reports, and related materials to track and present findings related to criminal activity.
- Assist in administering a variety of crime tracking, records management and intelligence databases and systems; perform regular system maintenance to ensure effective system operations; develop and maintain data tables.
- Prepare a variety of criminal operational and investigative reports; present findings as necessary; maintain records, logs and files.
- Assist in providing on-going traffic analysis; run specialized reports that include high collision locations, traffic accident, traffic citations, traffic warnings and parking enforcement in a variety of formats.
- Provides intelligence information and serves as a liaison with appropriate public safety divisions and local, state, federal, and international jurisdictions for the prevention and suppression of crime.
- Working with other law enforcement personnel to develop and implement crime prevention strategies.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement personnel, government agencies, and community organizations to address crime-related issues.
- Assist investigators with case development.
- Initiates and maintains coordination efforts with other regional crime analysts and real time crime centers.
- Research questions from outside agencies and the general public related to crime analysis; research answers or refer callers to other sources; prepare reports for dissemination with the Chief of Police.
- Prepare and distribute crime bulletins, briefings, alerts, and other reports as needed.
- Attends meetings, trainings, and workshops related to criminal activities, intelligence gathering, analyzing techniques, or other topics to assist law enforcement personnel in evaluating and sharing related pertinent information.
- Participate in multi-agency task force investigations, work groups, or committees to assist by contributing intelligence analysis and concepts.
- Prepare and occasionally make verbal, visual, or other types of presentations to staff and management teams, community agencies, and citizen groups on crime issues in a problem-solving environment.
- Maintain awareness of developments in the field of crime statistical analysis; incorporate new developments as appropriate.
- Attend workshops and complete additional courses to keep abreast of technological advancements in the field. Attend local and / or national employment-related training as necessary.
- Assists in the design, testing, and / or maintenance of operational databases, analytical software, hardware, and peripheral equipment.
- Trains law enforcement and other intelligence personnel as requested.
- Operate company and personal vehicle to drive between various work sites.
- Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related field.Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of computer experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs.Four (4) years of experience with crime data analysis including but not limited to; collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting the information to criminal investigators and police leadership.Experience working with police related software programs such as : RMS, TLO, CLEAR, Sector, Leads Online, GIS, Lexus Nexus, CAD, BWC, etc.Experience working within law enforcement.Experience working with native communities preferred.REQUIRED LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS / PREREQUISITES
WA State Driver License. (Personal Auto Insurance)Must adhere to the Motor Vehicle Regulations (Abstract Required)Must disclose all traffic infractions and vehicle collisions.
