Description:
Unit has 22 beds with an average daily census of about 8 patients.
Required certifications include BLS and ACLS.
The nurse-to-patient ratios are 2:1.
The electronic medical record system used is Cerner Power Chart.
Charge nurses do not take patient assignments except in emergencies.
There are no nurse aides in the unit.
Every other weekend is required for staffing.
Holidays are included in the permanent staff rotation.
Scrubs are navy in color.
There are no monitor technicians; nurses must read and interpret strips from patient room monitors.
Common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, cardiac drips, and hypertensive drips, as well as Propofol.
Ventilators in use include Hamilton G5 and Puritan Bennett 840.
A hospitalist or intensivist is present in-house 24/7.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7.
Pharmacy support is available from 7 am to midnight, with an Omnicell for after-hours needs.
Shifts consist of 12 hours, with self-scheduling available but not guaranteed.
Nurses will float to telemetry, which has a ratio of 4:1.
Orientation will include 1-2 shifts on the unit.
Typical patient diagnoses include sepsis, chest pain, GI bleeds, TIAs, and strokes.
This position does not include Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).
The unit is traveler-friendly and supports nursing staff in floating to the emergency department if desired.
Taking a patient assignment is optional.
The cancellation policy includes the ability to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
Charting is done through Cerner.
