The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes : assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • At least two (2) years of recent clinical RN Adult oncology experience.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Within thirty (30) days of hire, obtain a ONS / ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate.
  • Within three (3) years of hire, obtain Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN) or 36 continued education units (CEUs) that are oncology specific in a three-year accreditation cycle to meet the Commission on Cancer 4.2 Standard on nursing education.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Two (2) years recent oncology experience
  • Two (2) years outpatient infusion experience.

    The Adult Infusion room is a revenue generating department for the Cancer Center and the health system as a whole. This nursing position provides direct patient care to those receiving infusional therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusion, hydrations and a wide variety of other non- cancer directed agents. This vital position is part of our core staffing model, needed for sustaining and expanding operations.

    Department Specific Job Scope

    This nursing position provides direct care to those receiving infusion therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, clinical trials, cellular therapy, transfusion, support care, and a variety of other non- cancer directed agent. In addition to direct care, this position patient and family education, chart review / appointment preparations, telephone triage, and symptom management. Nurse within the department are cross trained into multiple roles within the department, including Infusion Nurse Coordinator, Charge Nurse and Telephone Triage.
