First Connect Health is seeking a travel nurse RN ED - Emergency Department for a travel nursing job in Peoria, Illinois. Job Description & Requirements Specialty : ED - Emergency Department Discipline : RN Start Date : 12 / 01 / 2025 Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, days Employment Type : Travel Title : RN Emergency Room Location : Peoria, IL, 61637 Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Days 3-12 hour shifts (7a-7p), rotating weekends and holidays Requirements : 2 yrs. of exp. RN IL Active License Required. ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC Required. Trauma Level 1 Exp. Required. Epic Required. Description : - Trauma Level? : Level 1 - Beds : 65 - all private, 2 trauma bays Nurse : Patient Ratios : 1 : 3-5 (variable based on acuity or needs of department) Required Certs : BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS Common diagnoses / Types of patients : In the ED we have all types of patients. See newborns to the elderly with a very wide variety of complaints. Minor patients to critically ill patients. Critically ill patients and those in cardiac arrest. Strokes and heart attacks on a regular basis. Level 1 / 2 trauma patients are cared for in the trauma bay by a specialized team of nurses (trauma team). Travelers may care for traumas once they have been stabilized in the bay and transferred to a pod but will not likely be sent to the trauma bay as the primary nurse caring for these patients. Experience or 'Must have' skills : Candidates must have required certifications. General nursing skills - would prefer 2 years of nursing experience at least and at least 1 prior travel assignment. SANE RN experience preferred. Working at a hospital with residents (teaching hospital) preferred. Common drips : We do titrate all types of drips. Working in the ED certainly nurses would expect to take care of a wide variety of critical patients. They would need to be proficient in vasopressor drips and titration of those drips along with cardiac drips, antihypertensive drugs and more. ED Physician & / or Mid-Levels staffed? : Varies based on time of day. There is a minimum of 3 attendings at all times. - Is there a Charge Nurse & / or House Supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? : 2 charge nurses - 1 handles incoming patient / telemetry radios etc., the other handles the needs throughout of the department. They do not routinely take teams but do often function as the second nurse in traumas or critical patients as needed. We also have a house supervisor 24 / 7. - Are there nurse aids / EMT / Paramedics / Patient Sitters on each shift? Ratios? : We do have ED techs. Their roles are slightly different than a traditional floor tech. Ratios are 1 : 9. RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? : Yes, we have all of those. We do have respiratory therapists who assist with this. Do you have Tele / Monitor Techs in the ER? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the Tele monitors? : We have a monitor tech but the nurses working in the ED should be able to interpret and act on rhythms that a patient has. I would expect that a person could recognize life threatening rhythms as all nurses working in the ED should have ACLS. Monitors are Phillips monitors and we would orient a traveler to their use. X-Ray or CT in the ER? : Radiology staff or transport will transport. Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RNs draw? : Nurses and techs draw labs. Boarders do have labs drawn by phlebotomy at times - Shifts & Scheduling : 12 hour shifts. Day shift : 7a, 8a, 9a Mid Shift : 10a, 11a, 12p, 1p, 3p Night Shift : 7p. Positions are not day / night rotating. Travelers do not self-schedule, they are scheduled by the scheduling manager but can include time off requests in their contract and we will review and approve / deny based on our ability to accommodate the scheduling requests. We do allow block scheduling when we can. With every other weekend this usually results in 2 on, then 4 on rotation. Others do 6 in a row and we can usually accommodate this with no issue. Weekend Requirements : Every other weekend on a rotation. Weekends for all shifts with the exception of 7p-7a is Sat / Sun. Weekend requirement for 7a-7p is Fri / Sat. - Holiday Requirements : Yes, every other or based on department needs. This is negotiable based on their contract request. Is there call or a standby requirement? : No call requirement for travelers. Floating Requirements : Can be floated to be "help all's" on other units. This is very rare and typically not the travelers who are floated. This is new since covid and not something that happens frequently. An ED nurse would not be expected to take a team on another unit. If floated they would be a help all. Scrub Color : No specific color. Tasteful scrubs with only solid colored shirts under.
