Job Description

About the BI Developer / Data Analyst Position

At Verndale, we are building a next-generation Data & Analytics practice designed to help organizations transform their complex data ecosystems into engines of clarity and intelligent action. Our vision is to empower clients to unlock hidden opportunities, optimize operations, and accelerate profitable growth through modern data architectures, trusted data management, advanced analytics, and AI-driven solutions. As part of a digital experience services firm with a strong heritage in customer experience and marketing technology, our Data & Analytics team extends Verndale’s core capabilities to deliver seamlessly integrated, insight-driven solutions that fuel personalization, operational excellence, and strategic foresight. We are pragmatic innovators, grounded in Verndale’s entrepreneurial culture, who design scalable, well-governed data platforms and embed intelligence into business workflows, enabling clients to thrive in the era of generative AI and beyond.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, maintain, and deploy dashboards, reports, and self-service BI solutions (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or equivalent) that provide stakeholders with timely, reliable insights.
  • Partner with business users to translate requirements into KPIs, metrics, and data models, ensuring alignment between business objectives and data solutions.
  • Design and implement semantic data models (dimensional schemas, star / snowflake) to support scalability, extensibility, and data storytelling.
  • Perform data profiling, validation, and exploratory analysis to uncover patterns, discrepancies, and business opportunities.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis and data-driven decision-making, preparing datasets, creating visualizations, and presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Monitor report usage and performance, optimizing for query speed, efficiency, and usability.
  • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance practices are embedded across BI workflows.
  • Contribute to documentation, training, and user enablement, helping non-technical stakeholders interpret dashboards and leverage insights effectively.
  • Stay current with emerging BI and data analysis tools and contribute to Verndale’s growing Data & AI practice.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience as a BI Developer, Data Analyst, or related role, with proven delivery of reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases and large datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and strong data visualization skills that translate complex data into clear, impactful insights.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling principles (dimensional modeling, historical data management, granularity).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data patterns, validate accuracy, and connect metrics to business value.
  • Comfort in requirement gathering and stakeholder engagement, bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions.
  • Skilled in KPI definition and requirements gathering, with the ability to align business needs to effective data models, visualizations, and consumption methods.
  • Experience with performance optimization (query tuning, aggregation strategies, caching).
  • Effective communication skills able to explain technical trade-offs and analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) for dashboard prototyping, query optimization, and analysis acceleration.
  • Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Azure Synapse).
  • Familiarity with data preparation and pipeline tools (dbt, Fivetran, Informatica, Alteryx).
  • Programming or scripting skills (Python, R) for deeper analysis or automation.
  • Advanced visualization design techniques, including custom visuals and interactive dashboards.
  • Background in consulting or client services, delivering BI / analytics solutions in fastpaced environments.
  • Exposure to data science and ML workflows, particularly around data preparation and feature engineering.
  • Knowledge of agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Ten Great Reasons to Work at Verndale

  • We are a rapidly growing company that is just as entrepreneurial today as when we were founded in 1998.
  • We are relentlessly curious and enthusiastically solve our clients’ complex business problems through technology, data, and design.

  • We offer regular training and professional development to move careers forward.
  • Client and employee satisfaction are our two most important business metrics.
  • We celebrate and champion diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • We offer generous paid company holidays, vacation, and paid sick time to every employee starting on day one.
  • We provide top-of-the-line benefits including health, dental, vision, 401K, LTD, STD, Life Insurance, EAP, HRA and more.
