Job description

The Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute translates science into solutions through service provision and innovation in three areas: translational science, education, and resources. Reporting to the Director’s Team and working closely with other institute directors and core leaders.

The SC CTSI Resources Strategic Manager will broadly support the implementation of strategies and day-today operations of programs that provide core resources and services for clinical and translational science. These currently include internal pilot awards, data science services, and consultations in study design, team science, and other expertise areas but may change from time to time based on strategic directions of the SC CTSI.

The new role blends leadership with project management to achieve three
main goals: (1) efficiently operationalize Institute strategies, (2) promote integration within and across elements in the SC CTSI and with local stakeholders and the CTSA consortium, and (3) strengthen our focus and capabilities in translational science.

Key Responsibilities

● Prepares long and short-range plans and milestones in collaboration with resource cores. Helps identify researcher needs, align with USC/CHLA and national efforts, and establish priorities and resources accordingly. Tracks progress across tasks to meet goals, priorities, and deadlines.

● Drives translational science initiatives that develop, demonstrate, and disseminate best practices in clinical and translational research. Applies scientific and operational innovation and strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of all research. Partners with faculty and staff on formative research, study design, conduct, analysis, and manuscript writing.

● Works with SC CTSI Communication team and resource programs to develop strategies for promotion and outreach for resources including developing needs assessment, promotion plans, outreach facilitation, newsletters and publications or other communications materials, and events planning. Coordinates with various internal and external stakeholders to increase the SC CTSI’s presence and recognition.

● Drives dissemination efforts of the resource programs’ impact including facilitating and compiling content and supporting writing for papers and publication.

● Works with SC CTSI Evaluation team and resource programs to conduct program evaluation and improvement. Prepares presentations and reports to SC CTSI, institutional leaders and NCATS on program productivity and impact. Develops and ensures processes and procedures are effective and efficient. ● Minimum Bachelors degree, strongly preferred Masters or PhD or equivalent experience in a health field, Business Management, Research Administration or related fields
● 7+ years of program management in an academic setting
● 5+ years of leadership and staff supervision experience
● Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage and empower a large team of leaders, faculty and staff
● Ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and leaders at all levels with clarity, maturity and precision both written and verbally; able to navigate in complex research organizations effectively
● Excellent time management; respond quickly to competing priorities and be comfortable with working with tight deadlines.
● Exceptional organization skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and track multiple projects; and maintain well-organized, easily accessible, shared files
● Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; balancing strategic vision with complex program operations for maximum impact

Position is primarily remote, but physical presence 1-2 days a week on USC campus is expected to facilitate communication within the SC CTSI team.

The annual base salary range for this position is $109,264.28 - $145,323.02.
