Veterinary Assistant
We are an AAHA accredited hospital providing our patients with excellent care from start to finish. With increased hospital visits, we need to add full and part time veterinary assistants to our state of the art hospital in Versailles KY. Our 3 doctor hospital has a wide range of patients needing medical attention. The team members must be a believer in high quality medicine and excellent patient care. In this position you will be working with your team to care for your patients and overseeing all medical attention that is needed. This team member must be a clear communicator, team player and have the passion for serving patients. Act as the extra eyes, ears, and hands for our veterinary staff to ensure the best quality patient care. Obtain relevant information and maintain proper and complete medical records. Our hospital is working with team member to become fear free certified in order to help patients receive the best care with less stress
Must have's in order to be considered :
- Must have at least 1 year experience in the veterinary field and basic medical knowledge.
- Must have high school Diploma or G.E.D
- Must be a least 18 years of age
- Must have positive attitude
- Must be able to be on your feet for extended periods of time which often require bending, crouching, squatting, and leaning over, twisting, reaching, upper body strength, hand strength, sitting on the floor, and other physical demands.
- Must be strong enough to withstand pulling of a large strong dog on a leash
- Must have basic math and writing skills
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. unassisted
- Must be available to work a 4 or 5 day work week with hours possible Monday through Saturday as hospital needs.
Skills :
Animal handling skills and at least a basic understanding of animal behavior and low stress handling techniquesAbility to remain calm and multi-task in a stressful environmentAbility to work positively as a team playerAbility to learn, apply new skills and follow through with directions and taskAbility to effectively problem solve and make decision as needed.Understanding of commonly used medicationsProvide compassionate patient care for such things as vital assessments, feeding, cleaning.Safely walking patientsRounding with the team members on patient care and important medical information on in house patient so continued care can go seamlessly.Participate in continuing education and actively work to increase skillsAdditional duties :
Assist in cleaning the hospital including (but not limited to) : laundry, floors, taking out trash, recycling, cleaning treatment area, exam rooms, kennels, and break room.Assist in restocking the hospital suppliesAppropriate disinfection protocol used when cleaning various areas of the hospitalBenefits :
