Job Summary
Performs a variety of clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Scope of Practice
Essential Functions

Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
Able to initiate, monitor and manage patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Able to initiate and manage all types of airways and associated equipment.
Able to obtain blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results accurately.
Accurately and completely documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above.
Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning / disinfection of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Associate degree. Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved Respiratory Care program
Experience - One (1) year of clinical experience
In Lieu Of
In lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) RRT associate degree equivalent hours may be considered.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
RESPIRATORY CARE PRACTIONER
CRT - CERT RESP THERAPIST
BLS
NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS, etc.- Must obtain and maintain certifications as required by work unit
Knowled ge, Skills and Abilities
Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and data entry
Knowledge of office equipment (fax / copier)
Mathematical skills
Basic ventilator skills
Basic Respiratory Care equipment skills
