At Kaiser Permanente / The Southeast Permanente Medical Group, a physiatrist specializes in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal pain conditions, chiefly related to the spine. Recommends and coordinates home exercise regimens or external physiotherapy for physical, mental, and occupational rehabilitation of patients : Examines patient, utilizing imaging, physical exam, and other diagnostic tools and formulates a comprehensive treatment plan – including recommending procedures or surgical care. Provides follow-up care as appropriate and collaborates with colleagues inside and outside of the department. Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Provides clinic-based care to patients focused on diagnosis and treatment of primarily musculoskeletal spine related pain conditions.
The ability to perform minor office-based procedures such as trigger point injections, electro-acupuncture, or joint injections may also be incorporated.
Important to have familiarity in managing other chronic pain conditions such as neuropathic pain, cancer pain, and CRPS.
Medication management focusing on evidence-based strategies, prioritizing safety, and restoration of function.
Prescribe exercises designed to develop functions of specific anatomical parts or specific muscle groups.
Recommends occupational or physical therapy modalities and coordinates care with external physical therapy groups.
Takes call in a rotating fashion – including phone consultations and referral reviews.
Minimum Education
Medical school (M.D. or D.O.)
Residency in physiatry / physical medicine and rehabilitation (four years)
