Overview
Field Engineer, Mission Critical role at JE Dunn Construction. This position supports construction activities for routine projects and ensures the crew's work is performed efficiently and effectively. The Field Engineer may perform tasks personally and supervise a crew as a working foreman, in alignment with JE Dunn's strategy, vision and values.
Role Summary
The Field Engineer will support construction activities for routine projects and ensure that the planned work of the crew is performed efficiently and effectively. This position will be responsible for completing tasks personally and by supervising a crew as a working foreman.
Key Responsibilities — Core
- Actively participate in all aspects of the project-specific safety plan and culture.
- Learn and participate in the company's safety culture with a commitment to an injury-free environment.
- Work with tools and execute self-perform work embedded in a crew of craftsmen to complete specific assigned tasks on a project.
- Acquire knowledge about company best-practice standards and fundamentals for building and construction techniques through hands-on training.
- Build relationships and communicate effectively with tradespeople and project team members (foreman, journeymen, superintendents, subcontractors, etc.).
- Develop understanding of functions and support roles across the company and how they contribute to project success.
- Learn and apply company standards for equipment use in building processes.
- Collaborate with others and demonstrate teamwork.
- Incorporate Lean practices into daily activities.
- Participate in meetings such as weekly work plans as warranted by business needs and site practices.
Key Responsibilities — Additional Core
Plans, executes and reports self-perform work.Pre-plans crew activities, fulfills daily task plan requirements, completes look-ahead schedule and provides updates to supervisor.Participates in creating and implementing project safety plans and ensures compliance through training, toolbox talks and communication with safety representatives.Helps control costs by seeking process improvements.Ensures quality for assigned tasks by assisting with QA / QC activities.Assists with material and other costs (MOC) and equipment analysis.Works on site with the superintendent to assist with monitoring crew size, self-perform packaging and working with contractors.Participates in punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews and prepares necessary documentation.Participates in or leads planning meetings such as weekly work plans and lookaheads.Gains knowledge about various functions and support roles across the company to coordinate with others to meet project needs.Participates in Lean construction practices such as the last planner system and related components.Participates in planning components of sequencing and coordination of all crafts.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to perform work accurately, completely and on time.Verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency in MS Office.Ability to acquire knowledge in layout skills.Knowledge of crane flagging and rigging.Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources.Knowledge of construction management methods and Lean process / philosophy.Proficiency in JE Dunn construction technology.Ability to apply fundamentals of construction management and self-perform labor productivity.Ability to assess and optimize project productivity.Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.Education
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).Participation in federally required training or apprenticeship program (Location-dependent, Preferred).In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.Experience
2+ years construction experience (Required).0-2 years construction supervision experience (Preferred).Working Environment
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.May involve periods of travel and / or relocation.May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).Assignment location may include project sites and / or office.Frequent activity : Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling.Occasional activity : Sitting, Viewing computer screen.Benefits & Diversity Commitment
