Self-Contained Special Education Teacher (SPED) Job Duties

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with diverse academic and behavioral needs

Deliver individualized and small-group instruction in a self-contained classroom environment

Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet each students unique learning style

Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to promote student achievement

Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and ensure compliance with IEP goals and state requirements

Participate in IEP meetings and provide professional input on student progress and educational strategies

Federal and State Requirements

Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field

Active Virginia teaching certification in Special Education required

Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and behavioral support practices

Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Must pass fingerprinting and background checks as required by the district and state
