HELPline is staffed with trained, trauma-informed crisis counselors offering compassionate support.

We’re hiring a full-time Grant Writer. Grants keep our services running and ensure we can support crisis counseling, shelter operations, forensic nursing exams, and survivor advocacy across Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Cullman, and Winston counties.

  • Craft compelling, survivor-centered narratives backed by clear data and outcomes
  • Partner with program and finance teams on budgets, logic models, and compliance
  • Steward funder relationships and deliver timely reports that show real results
  • Track deadlines and performance so nothing falls through the cracks

What you bring

  • Strong writing and editing skills with a gift for clarity and persuasion
  • Research chops, deadline discipline, and project management skills
  • Comfort with budgets, data storytelling, and cross-team collaboration
  • Experience in nonprofit or human services grant writing is preferred
  • If you’re motivated by measurable impact—and want your words to open doors to safety and support, we’d love to hear from you.

    Major Accountabilities

  • Develop compelling and tailored grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary information and statistics
  • Track and manage deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
  • Edit and proofread proposals to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance with guidelines
  • Maintain records of submitted proposals and awarded grants
  • Prepare reports for funders and ensure timely follow-up
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (preferred)
  • Proven experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Familiarity with grant databases and funding platforms is a plus
  • Completion of Crisis Services training program
  • Full-time, salary-exempt position; salary commensurate with experience
  • Health insurance (80% paid by Crisis Services for employees), group life insurance (80% paid by Crisis Services), long-term disability insurance (100% paid by Crisis Services) and optional dental and vision
  • Paid time off, and employer contributions to a 403(b) Thrift Plan after one year of employment
  • Requires confidentiality, proof of reliable transportation, insurable through agency auto insurance as well as current auto insurance and a valid AL Driver’s License.

Crisis Services of North Alabama is an equal opportunity employer. All aspects of employment, including the decision to hire, promote, discipline, or discharge, will be based on merit, competence, performance, and organizational need.
