American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg OrthoGeneral Surgical unit with required ortho experience, day shift, and BLS certification.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 40-bed OrthoGeneral Surgical unit at a Level III Trauma CenterMed / Surg patient population including pneumonia, sepsis, CHF, COPD, AKI, DVT, PE, dialysis, COVIDExcludes neuro and cardiothoracic patient careTypical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4-5, assigned by acuity, with possible mixed COVID and non-COVID assignmentsDay shift position with 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per weekSchedules provided in 3-week blocks approximately 10 days in advanceRequired to float to other Med / Surg units and ED holding areas as neededSpecialized procedures include total joint replacements (knee / hip), epidurals, PCA, ketamine drips (training provided), colostomy takedowns, hemicolectomy, extensive abdominal surgeries, and TURPEPIC used for charting; Alaris and Pyxis systems also in useCentralized telemetry monitoring and 24 / 7 support from hospitalist and RTResponsibilities include care for patients with surgical, medical, and ortho needs, performing wound care, administering IV antibiotics, and managing various drains and wound vacsMust document pain assessments before and after administering pain medication per policyNot allowed to leave medications or saline flushes unattended or unsecuredTwo-nurse verification required when wasting narcotics and benzodiazepinesSupport staff includes CNAs, free-floating charge nurse, and flex nurse for admissions, discharges, and breaksOrientation includes 2 days of general hospital orientation and 1 day of unit-based orientationExpectation for communication via white boards, bedside report, and weekly audits of pain assessmentsColor of scrubs is flexible; any color may be wornNo personal phones allowed on the unit and breaks are requiredFirst time travelers may be considered depending on fit for the unitFree parking available\n \n Requirements\n
