Job Description
The Compounding and Blending Engineer will own the blending and mixing processes that turn new product ideas into dependable, large-scale production runs. You’ll partner with R&D, Quality, and Production teams to take formulas from pilot-scale to commercial volumes, ensure the first batch runs smoothly, and drive ongoing process improvements that boost consistency, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
o Translate lab or pilot formulas into plant-ready batch instructions and operating parameters.
o Lead engineering and first-time production runs, capturing process data and adjusting settings to ensure “right-first-time” success.
o Conduct blend studies (mix time, order of addition, equipment settings) to improve homogeneity, yield, and throughput.
o Analyze run data, identify variation sources, and implement improvements that reduce scrap, rework, and downtime.
o Partner with Quality teams to design and interpret stability studies.
o Maintain clear documentation—SOPs, change controls, and deviation reports—to support internal audits and customer requirements.
o Evaluate and help commission new mixing, sifting, or automation equipment as production needs grow.
o Collaborate with Maintenance teams to introduce real-time monitoring or data-collection tools.
o Serve as the technical liaison between R&D, Planning, Purchasing, and Production to coordinate launch timelines and capacity planning.
o Train production technicians and supervisors on new procedures and best practices.
Background
o Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food or Pharmaceutical Science, or a related field.
o 3+ years of experience in a blending / compounding or process-engineering role within food, dietary-supplement, pharmaceutical, chemical, or similar manufacturing environment.
o Solid understanding of powder- or liquid-mixing fundamentals and common blending equipment.
o Familiarity with basic statistical tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab / JMP) and data-driven problem solving.
o Curious, analytical mindset with strong troubleshooting instincts.
o Clear written and verbal communicator who can translate technical details to multidisciplinary teams.
o Organized self-starter comfortable juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
