Description
The Registered Nurse at Eagle Lake Childrens Center for unaccompanied minors will serve as the Lead Medical Coordinator and will play a critical role in providing medical care and supervision to high-risk cases while overseeing a team consisting of Medical Assistants. You will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of the minors in our care implementing medical protocols and maintaining compliance with the policies and guidelines set forth by the Office of Refugee and Resettlement (ORR).
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide direct medical care to unaccompanied minors in the shelter including conducting assessments administering medications and providing treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor and supervise high-risk cases such as minors with chronic illnesses mental health conditions or complex medical needs ensuring their medical needs are met on an ongoing basis.
- Assess and triage medical concerns promptly identifying any emergent situations and initiating appropriate interventions as necessary.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team including medical assistants mental health professionals and case managers to develop and implement individualized care plans for each minor addressing their unique medical needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records documenting all assessments treatments medications and interventions provided to minors in accordance with ORR policies and guidelines.
- Conduct health education sessions for minors and staff members promoting preventive measures and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Train and supervise medical assistants providing guidance and support in the delivery of medical care ensuring adherence to established protocols and maintaining high standards of patient safety and confidentiality.
- Coordinate and facilitate medical appointments with external healthcare providers accompanying minors as needed and ensuring appropriate follow-up care is provided.
- Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings to discuss complex cases contribute to treatment planning and share medical expertise.
- Validate completion of all nursing duties including nursing assessments charting appointment scheduling routine observations isolation observations wellness checks immunizations and reports in compliance with regulatory authorities and program protocols.
- Coordinate with pharmacies to order prescription medications and ensure accuracy and compliance with doctors orders.
- Communicate effectively with the Eagle Lake Site Director and Regional Director for Medical Operations on policy and procedure issues affecting healthcare quality and contagious disease control.
- Maintain an adequate supply of over-the-counter medications and arrange proper disposal of unused and expired medications.
- Document controlled drugs usage and reconcile scheduled drugs used in the facility according to protocols and procedures.
- Provide required documentation and reporting within specified timeframes to meet program guidelines.
- Oversee the development and audit of medication administration records (MARs) for each child.
- Arrange transportation of children to healthcare appointments including doctor visits dental visits therapy sessions and lab visits.
- Recognize and respond to signs of abuse neglect exploitation and sexually provocative behavior following professional reporting and documenting procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of healthcare records and information in accordance with HIPAA Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements and organization protocols.
- Perform and supervise nursing duties at designated site(s) ensuring compliance with nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of two years of clinical experience preferably in pediatrics adolescent health or pediatric emergency setting.Experience working with diverse populations particularly immigrant and refugee communities is highly desirable.Knowledge and understanding of ORR policies particularly Policy 3.4 regarding the care of unaccompanied minors is preferred.Excellent assessment critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and other relevant software applications.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or willingness to obtain prior to starting work.Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.ATTENDANCE : Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employers sole discretion.
LICENSES : Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Texas or compact license.
VEHICLE : Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
OTHER : Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD.
