American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a current CA license and strong critical care skills for a 13-week acute care assignment.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 20-bed Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospitalCare for critically ill adult patients with diagnoses including sepsis, DKA, hyperglycemia, COPD, CVA, GI bleeds, and cardiac conditionsUnit uses Cerner EMR; prior Cerner experience is preferredShifts are 12-hour days with a requirement to work 2 weekends per 4-week periodRequired to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignmentNurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 2 in ICU; may take 4-5 patients when floated to other unitsFloating required to telemetry and med-surg floors, with travelers being first to floatResponsible for reading and interpreting GE telemetry stripsICU team is supported by an in-house charge nurse (resource only, non-assigned) and 24 / 7 RT and pharmacy coverageTwo shifts of ICU-specific orientation and one additional orientation shift on the floorWill float to med-surg and telemetry units as needed, taking a full patient load appropriate to the unitUniform requirement is navy scrubsMust pass Relias Dysrhythmia exam and sterile technique test during orientation if applicablePrior full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year is not permittedICU does not have nurse aides; must be comfortable working without aide supportTeam includes 24 / 7 internal medicine coverage, with a pulmonologist acting as intensivist (not 24 / 7)Holiday coverage is required for 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contractFirst-time travelers will be considered for this roleStrong critical thinking and adaptability are essential for success in this role\n \n Requirements\n
Active and current CA RN license required at time of considerationMinimum 2 years of recent ICU experienceCertifications required : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (CCRN and basic critical care course preferred but not required)Proficiency in reading and interpreting telemetry strips and managing a full ICU patient loadStrong IV placement and management skills requiredMust be comfortable with ventilator management (RT manages vents), and the ABCDE bundleComfort with a broad range of critical care medications and equipment including versed, Propofol, and norepinephrineExperience with Cerner EMR is preferredTwo recent professional references required : one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one supervisor or peer reference from the last 3 years\n Benefits\n
