The Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing, consulting and treating patients with communicative or swallowing disorders of referred patients
Need School and PEDS exp of at least 2 years
M-F 8-4 : 30pm
The school calendar is August – May; then Summer School in June; no school in July; new academic year begins in annually in August.

Schedule : Mon-Friday : 8 : 30AM -5PM; 30 minute lunch; 30 minute administrative time (4 : 30-5PM)
The breakdown between Clinic and San Carlos Schools is as follows :
SLP Clinic tx time : Wednesday afternoon, 1PM-4 : 30PM and Friday, 8 : 30AM -5PM
SCUSD : Mon-Tues, Thurs; Weds the schools always have a ½ day schedule. The SLP treats in : pre-k; primary, intermediate, middle, high school and self-contained classrooms.
Housing : a contractor may qualify for on-site housing but they have to ask for it, complete an application if housing is available housing is shared. Rent will be deducted from the person’s pay. NO PETS If they have a Pet then SCAHC housing is no available.
Transportation : the schools are nearby (round trip is 5-7 miles). A GSA car is available to request.
At least 2 years of recent, relevant experience in Speech-Language Pathology
Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an ASHA accredited school, required.
Current BLS certification or able to obtain with 30 days of hire.
1. Performs assessments, establishes need and plan and evaluate treatment programs of patients and pediatric patients with possible speech, language, cognitive or swallowing difficulties as part of treatment team of physicians, nurses, dieticians and other therapists.
2. Assesses communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment.
3. Documents events in medical record including observations, evaluation results, and responses to treatment according to hospital policy.
4. Develops treatment plans, interventions and / or materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of
communication disorders.
5. Performs speech-language pathology treatments and instructs patients or family members in proper care and exercises as needed.
6. Evaluates chart and reports patients' progress throughout the planned therapy program.
7. Provides patient and staff education to ensure understanding of communicative / swallowing condition and treatment plan including developing educational materials.
8. Communicates scheduling needs with receptionist; attends and participates in staff meetings for departmental problem-solving and goal-setting.
9. Assists with program development and continued interaction with community groups as indicated.
10. Assists with writing of Policy and Procedure Manual, Department Quality Program, and others as indicated.
11. Ensures the availability and proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used for assessment and up keep of rehabilitative services department stakeholders.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders; principles of practices of speech and language therapy; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and / or laws.
Knowledge in translating therapy data into meaningful educational activities.
Demonstrated skill in applying assessment instruments, operating specialized equipment used in the treatment of communication disorders and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
Must possess good communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate with diverse groups.
Must be able to meet deadlines and schedules, while working with attention to detail.
Must be able to create and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; design software; internet software; and electronic database health records systems.
