Job description

General Function

Position will focus on a variety of technical work and analysis required for the development of user and systems requirements. Performs routine to highly complex tasks involving designing, programming, testing, installation and maintenance of college systems.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment and / or systems. Researches and evaluates new technologies. Promotes the use of information technology to enhance college effectiveness.

2. Follows policies and procedures related to information systems hardware and software acquisition, use, support and end-point security; creates documentation including but not limited to service level agreements, white papers for application / services schematics and user guides.

3. Completes deployment of software or hardware technology assets.

4. Tests new software and hardware technology for distribution. Provides feedback on testing results.

5. Reviews technical documentation and performs testing of recent software or firmware upgrades, updates and patches to ensure proper security levels and vulnerabilities of technology assets are maintained.

6. Executes end-point malware incident procedures.

7. Assists with the College's annual software and services renewal process.

8. Assists with maintaining software deployment and hardware management systems.

9. Assists with receiving, organizing and staging equipment in ITS storage areas. Follows OSHA guidelines for handling and moving technology equipment.

10. Follows e-Waste policies and procedures set by ITS leadership and college inventory control.

11. Assists with the College's employee space assignment process.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics

Depending of the operational needs of the department, expert understanding in the following areas :

  • Software Distribution Tools
  • Print Infrastructure and System Administration
  • Budget Management
  • Asset Tracking
  • Windows Workstation and Server
  • Hardware and software support
  • Workstation operating systems : Windows, Macintosh, Linux and others
  • Local Area Network (LAN) fundamentals and remote access troubleshooting, including network interface connection and user installation
  • Network topologies
  • LAN administration, servers and network architecture, TCP / IP Apple Talk and other protocols
  • Voice communications Equipment
  • Commonly used software systems such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Third-party systems accessed via desktop client or web-based interface
  • Internet technologies
  • Expert ability in operating, installing, maintaining, configuring and troubleshooting a variety of highly technical computers, local and wide area network equipment, servers and peripherals
  • Extensive knowledge in systems analysis and information system concepts, techniques and operating principles
  • Knowledge of program specifications, designing, testing and prototyping
  • Knowledge of current practices in the administration of technology-based instructional systems.

Knowledge and ability to plan and manage a budget

  • Advance project management skills desirable
  • Ability to develop a vision of adopting emerging technologies to achieve college goals and objectives
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to efficiently manage time and organize

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Requirements

    Bachelor's Degree in computer Information Systems or related field; or Associate Degree in computer Information Systems and 2 years of experience in Information Technology

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Salary for this position is $42,935 - $65,260. Pay grade for this position is K. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 25% percentile. Contract type is Professional. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
