Unit Overview :
Become a part of our dynamic 24-bed Neurosurgical Unit , where you will care for a complex and diverse patient population including :
Post-operative craniotomies for bleed evacuation, AVMs, and tumor resections.Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgeries.Hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke patients through our Comprehensive Stroke Program .A high volume of cervical and spinal surgery cases, along with medical overflow patients.As part of the Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute (ANII) , our unit utilizes the latest neurosurgical techniques and cutting-edge care.

Provide and coordinate comprehensive, evidence-based patient care using the nursing process.Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to deliver compassionate and therapeutic care.Utilize clinical judgment, communication skills, and critical thinking to achieve optimal patient outcomes.Contribute positively to the overall patient experience.Why Join Us?

Assess patient needs and implement individualized interventions based on the nursing process.Recognize and address significant changes in patients' conditions and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patient-centered care.Implement risk-reduction strategies and enhance patient safety, while tailoring educational approaches to fit patient and family needs.Actively participate in discharge planning through an integrated, interdisciplinary approach.Evaluate outcomes for patients, teams, and units while proposing improvements where needed.Facilitate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution within the team.Support a culture of safety by identifying potential risks and participating in corrective actions.Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance department functions and patient care.Pursue professional development opportunities and mentor others within the team.Demonstrate knowledge of care requirements for patients at different life stages.Licensure and Requirements :
Must have a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.Education :
Completion of an accredited nursing program is required.Experience :
Typically requires at least 1 year of clinical nursing experience.Skills & Abilities :
Ability to provide holistic patient care with a patient and family focus.Awareness of changes that require prompt interventions; confidence in responding to clinical situations.Proficient in using electronic medical records and communication tools.Exceptional communication skills, and ability to build positive relationships.Strong critical thinking, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.Aptitude for effective time management, especially in fast-paced environments.Coordination and collaboration within a dynamic healthcare team.Physical Requirements :
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, reach, and twist frequently throughout the workday.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 40 lbs.Capability to push / pull with a force of 30 lbs. and assist with sliding transfers.May be exposed to chemicals and biohazards; appropriate protective gear is required.Must have adequate functions of speech, vision, hearing, and touch, and be skilled in fine motor tasks for procedures.This job description provides an overview of the responsibilities and qualifications needed for this position.
