About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Shift : Day 3x12-Hour

Hours per Shift : 12

Experience : Minimum of 2 years with 1 year of direct Medical Surgical experience.

License : Current state nursing license required.

Certifications : BCLS, NIH, NIHSS required; ACLS preferred.

Must-Have :

Must have minimum 2 years of experience with at least 1 year in Medical Surgical nursing.

Unit will not accept first-time travelers.

Providers must be able to float to other Medical Surgical areas as needed.

Description :

The unit primarily cares for stroke patients.

Additional diagnoses may include neurological surgery patients, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and more.

The unit has a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) for specialized care.

Daily census averages around 42 patients.

Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 : 6.

Floating to other Medical Surgical and telemetry areas may be required, including COVID care units.

Travelers are required to work every other weekend.

If a shift is called off, the traveler must make up the shift within the same week or at the end of the contract.

Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting.

Flexibility in scheduling may be required as block scheduling cannot always be guaranteed.

The unit uses PYXIS and EPIC for medication and charting systems.

Emergency situations such as rapid response or code blue may arise where quick decision-making is necessary.

Nurses will be expected to manage blood products, central lines, and neuro-related conditions such as seizures and traumatic brain injuries.

This position requires a strong foundation in Medical Surgical nursing practices.

Candidates must not have less than 1 year of specific Medical Surgical experience in their work history.

All applicants must be comfortable with floating responsibilities based on unit needs and patient care demands.

If the candidate has a perm address within a certain distance, they may be offered a local rate.
