Role overview

The Senior Director of Tax is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of CarGurus global tax function. This individual will lead the development and execution of tax strategy and ensure compliance with domestic and international tax laws. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong leadership to drive financial efficiency and compliance.

What youll do

• Lead the global tax function, including planning, compliance, reporting, and audits
• Oversee tax planning, including incentives, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions, and tax-efficient financing
• Manage the efficient preparation, review and approval of global tax payments, corporate income tax returns and all related filings
• Oversee the preparation of interim and annual tax provisions under ASC 740 including all financial statement disclosures and compliance with internal controls
• Lead audits and defend the company’s direct and indirect strategy and positions before tax authorities
• Manage relationships with external tax advisors
• Proactively monitor and interpret changing tax laws and communicate to executive management the impact on the company
• Strategic advisor on the tax implications of corporate initiatives
• Drive automation and process improvement by leveraging technology to enable compliance and strategic tax insights
• Lead, mentor, develop and retain a high-performing team across tax and treasury functions
• Partner cross-functionally with business teams and collaborate with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, FP&A, and HR to support alignment corporate initiatives
