Position Overview :
The Medical Technologist will provide comprehensive clinical laboratory services at the Rosebud Service Unit (RSU), a high-complexity, CLIA-certified facility serving the Native American population. This role supports outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and specialty medical services and requires a high level of technical expertise, independence, and cultural sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform a wide range of routine to highly complex diagnostic tests including :
- Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Banking, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology, Reference Testing
- Operate and maintain high-complexity laboratory equipment (e.g., Siemens EXL200, Coulter DXH 900, Sysmex CS-2500)
- Conduct phlebotomy on all age groups (venipuncture and capillary)
- Follow and document quality control procedures (e.g., Levey-Jennings charts) per CLIA, HIPAA, and JCAHO standards
- Maintain accurate patient and lab documentation using RPMS and EHR systems
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g., cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis) and maintain current BLS certification
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, TJC, and IHS policies and procedures
- Float across lab departments and shifts as needed and participate in ongoing training, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities
Required Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
ASCP or equivalent certification as MT, MLT, or CLSExperience :
Minimum of 12 months experience in a hospital laboratory setting within the last 36 monthsExperience must include blood bank work beyond initial trainingSkills :
Proficiency in laboratory information systems, word processing, and EHRExcellent interpersonal communication, especially in multicultural settingsLicensing / Compliance :
Must meet all immunization and health documentation requirements including TB test, MMR, Varicella, Hep B, and annual influenzaMust pass background check and security clearancePhysical & Work Requirements :
Rotating shifts (day / evening / night / weekends / holidays)May require extended hours during staff shortagesMust maintain professional appearance and demeanorMust attend orientation and annual in-service trainingsWill be evaluated on professional effort, patient care quality, and adherence to lab protocols
