Overview
Mitsubishi Power Americas is seeking a qualified Civil / Structural Engineer – Technical Lead to lead civil and structural design efforts on a range of projects. The role focuses on design elements such as support structures, concrete foundations, and steel structural systems, and requires leading a sub-team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform, review, comment, and approve engineering design and structural analysis for steel structures and concrete foundations.
- Collect, review, interpret, and integrate design requirements from customers, suppliers, and the parent company.
- Prepare and review engineering technical requirements to support overall project proposals and bid strategy.
- Engage in technical conversations with customers on behalf of the Civil / Structural Team to address project needs and provide guidance.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain Management, Quality Controls, Construction Services, Project Management, and other Engineering Teams to prioritize and resolve issues related to Mitsubishi's scope of supply.
- Support the simplification and standardization of product designs to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs.
- Enhance structural design standards for turbine generator foundations, air intake filter houses, equipment enclosures, and piping supports.
- Conduct regular meetings with international engineering partners to ensure successful design implementation.
- Lead periodic reviews of the civil / structural team's execution schedule, expedite engineering activities, address critical needs, and report on technical delivery status.
- Train designated engineers in performing structural analysis, preparing calculation reports, and applying sound engineering judgment.
- Monitor and balance the workload of Civil / Structural team members and coordinate with the team manager to maintain efficiency.
- Prepare and review budgets, bids, technical requirements, and commercial requirements.
- Ensure arrangement and foundation interface information meets project requirements and interfaces with internal and external teams to ensure accurate design data.
- Complete projects on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Provide performance insights to the team manager to inform evaluations and foster continuous improvement.
- Collaborate in recruiting and onboarding qualified candidates to strengthen the Civil / Structural team's capabilities.
- Carry out other responsibilities as assigned to meet evolving project and organizational needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required. Minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience. Experience in gas turbine design, auxiliary systems, nuclear engineering, or foundations for rotating equipment is strongly preferred.Strong familiarity with ASCE 7, IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, OSHA, and industry standards. Familiarity with AISC 341, ACI 351, DIN 4024, ISO 1940 is a plus.Mathematical skills : ability to work with probability and statistics, geometry, thermodynamics, and trigonometry; ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Smart Plant 3D / Tekla / Revit : familiarity with 3D integrated design and extraction of technical detail.STAAD.Pro / SAP2000 / GT Strudl : familiarity with structural design tools.AutoCAD / MicroStation : familiarity with 2D CAD drafting tools.Travel up to 10%; may include occasional overseas travel as needed by the business.Benefits
