About Our MLS Underwriting Team

Nationwide specializes in providing professional liability insurance. We provide public and private D&O products along with ancillary coverages. The Underwriting department consists of a Commercial team, a Financial Institution team, a Cyber team, an Excess Casualty team, and a Private team. Each group has underwriters and managers with various levels of expertise. As an MLS Underwriting Intern, you will gain tangible, hands-on experience and insight into all aspects of our business.

A day in the life of a MLS Underwriting Intern might include :

  • Learning the importance of customer relationships and what underwriters are looking for in each risk
  • Involvement in company projects
  • Working through case studies with mentors and individually
  • Learning about the unique accounts we insure
  • High performing interns may be considered for a full-time job after graduation.

About You

A successful MLS Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has :

Education

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, Insurance, or a related field of study
  • Completion of junior year is preferred
  • Involvement in student activities and / or some work experience

    • Skills / Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Exposure to insurance or finance concepts / coursework is preferred
  • Problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to use judgment in recognizing problems, determining appropriate actions, and implementing solutions
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environment
  • Natural curiosity to explore and question
  • Negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and service orientation

    • Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. The national hourly pay range for Nationwide Internships is : $21 - $50
