About The Position
Job Title : Registered Respiratory Therapist

Shift : Rotating weekends and holidays
Hours per Shift : 12 hours (7 : 00 AM - 7 : 30 PM)
Experience : Minimum of 1 year required
License : Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in Massachusetts
Certifications : ACLS, NRP, and PALS required or obtained within 6 months of hire
Must-Have :
Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Therapy program
Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (R.R.T.) by the National Board for Respiratory Care or eligible
Description :
Systematically gather and evaluate relevant information and data from patient interviews and other sources.
Develop an appropriate care plan based on systematic information gathering and analysis.
Identify variations from expected findings and understand the significance of such variations.
Take appropriate actions when variations are identified.
Assess the patient’s learning needs, identify learning styles, and recognize barriers to learning.
Assess the patient’s readiness to learn and determine when it is appropriate to involve family or friends in education.
Plan for and provide patient teaching.
Evaluate the patient’s understanding of their condition, treatment, and prognosis.
Inform the patient of their plan of care, discharge plan, and follow-up instructions.
Evaluate and validate the effectiveness of patient teaching.
Prepare the patient to accept a level of responsibility for their own care.
Coordinate care with other healthcare providers.
Delegate to other healthcare providers when appropriate.
Assess and reassess the patient’s condition, status, and progress.
Prioritize and modify the plan of care based on patient assessment and condition.
Document the implementation of the plan of care and any adverse or unexpected events.
Measure and administer the correct medication dosage per physician’s order.
Administer respiratory therapy treatments and oxygen therapy.
Understand the purpose and possible side effects associated with respiratory therapy treatments.
Obtain arterial blood gases (ABGs) per hospital policy.
Perform pulse oximetry and ensure accurate results.
Perform pulmonary function tests following standards.
Perform EKGs and ensure quality recordings.
Assist with flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
Set up mechanical ventilators, including BIPAP and CPAP units, and select the correct patient parameters.
Assess mechanical ventilators and BIPAP and CPAP functions to ensure safe operation.
Assess the patient’s cardio-pulmonary status and use data to recommend changes to the patient’s plan of care.
Provide instruction on the proper use of cardiopulmonary medication and equipment.
Distribute age and culturally specific patient education materials based on educational needs.
Implement components of the VAP bundle consistently and per protocol.
Alert the Nurse Manager or Director if there is a deviation from the VAP bundle by the attending physician for case review and follow-up as indicated.
