American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) night shift assignment requiring 2 years of PICU experience and expertise with EVD and trach / vent care.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within an acute care hospital setting
  • 12-bed unit with seasonal census variation (summer : ~4, winter : ~6)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 2
  • Night shift schedule (7p-7a) with weekend shifts as needed
  • Frequent floating to pediatric, NICU, and sitter assignments required
  • Common patient population includes trach / vent, DKA, respiratory, surgical (trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs, seizures), with no cardiac cases
  • Must titrate drips such as propofol, fentanyl, and epinephrine
  • Uses Epic EMR and Alaris equipment
  • No on-call, but block scheduling and special requests are not permitted
  • RNs are responsible for titrating multiple drips and managing patients with complex equipment
  • Holiday coverage is expected, with at least one holiday covered during the contract
  • No nurse aides or patient care techs are present on this unit
  • Charge Nurse is present on each shift and is not assigned patients
  • Pediatrician available in-house during the day and on-call at night
  • Scrub color is flexible and any color is permitted
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Permanent employees must have been separated from the facility for at least one year before being eligible

  • Active ID or compact state RN license required at time of consideration
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PICU RN experience required
  • Experience with EVD and trach / vent care is required
  • Epic charting and Alaris equipment experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry / monitor strips independently
  • Must provide two professional references : one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
  • Must submit a copy of driver’s license and comply with all required documentation
