Located in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood , UPMC Presbyterian is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a leader in organ transplantation, cardiology, trauma, stroke, and cutting-edge research . The Medical ICU (MICU) is a 32-bed critical care unit that specializes in treating patients with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, pre / post-lung transplants, renal failure, and toxicology cases . Nurses in the MICU gain hands-on experience with ventilators, trachs, vasopressors, neuromuscular blockades, and CRRT machines .

Qualifications - Internal
Minimum 1 year of RN experience preferredBSN preferredPrevious Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience preferredCompletion of UPMC student nurse internship or clinical transitions course preferredSkills & Abilities :
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient careUnderstanding of growth and development principles to assess and meet patient needsStrong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilitiesGood clinical judgment and ability to apply the nursing process effectivelyAbility to work in a complex environment and handle multiple / changing prioritiesStrong interpersonal skills to build relationships with staff, providers, patients, and familiesPhysical ability for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patientsLicensure, Certifications & Clearances :
Current Pennsylvania RN License (or must obtain within four months of hire)CPR certification (AHA standards, didactic & skills demonstration required within 30 days of hire)ACLS certification (within 1 year of employment)Act 34 Criminal Clearance requiredAdditional Notes :
Graduate Nurses (GNs) must complete licensure examination within 4 months of hire or within 1 year of graduation , whichever comes first. Failure to do so may result in termination or demotion at UPMC’s discretion.
