Job Description : Cloud Reliability Engineer (AWS)

Location : Hybrid Baltimore, MD

Employment Type : Contract-to-Hire

Hourly Rate : ~$72 / hr (with benefits)

Conversion Salary : ~$135,000 annually + benefits

Clearance : Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass DHS USCIS Public Trust background check

Interview Requirement : Completion of a HackerRank coding assessment (API Analysis, Password Validation, SQL)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Reliability Engineer with strong AWS, DevOps, and SRE expertise to support a mature cloud and CI / CD environment. This role focuses on maintaining and optimizing existing infrastructure, improving reliability, implementing cloud security best practices, and ensuring system uptime for highly scalable production systems.

Responsibilities

Manage and optimize mature CI / CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure in AWS.

Implement SRE best practices to ensure high reliability, scalability, and performance.

Develop resilient systems capable of handling outages and failover scenarios.

Apply Infrastructure as Code and configuration management across cloud environments.

Maintain and enhance cloud security posture, including key rotation and certificate management (TLS / SSL).

Troubleshoot and debug complex infrastructure, networking, and deployment issues.

Build and improve monitoring dashboards and alerting systems to proactively identify infrastructure issues.

Support automation efforts across deployment, security, and infrastructure operations.

Collaborate with engineering teams on backend, frontend, and cloud services integration.

Required Experience & Skills

Experience : 5 6+ years in Software Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering.

Technical Requirements

AWS (Production Environment) : Networking, security, automation, deployments, serverless.

SRE Expertise : Reliability engineering practices, observability, uptime optimization.

Configuration Management & IaC : (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

Networking : Strong understanding of network protocols, TLS / SSL, certificate lifecycle management.

CI / CD : Management of enterprise pipelines.

Programming & Scripting :

Java + Spring Boot (backend)

JavaScript / TypeScript + React (frontend)

Bash

Python

Data & Messaging : SQL / Oracle, Kafka.

Cloud-native Tools : Kubernetes, Argo CD, cluster management, automation tools.

Monitoring / Analytics : Experience with Matomo or similar platforms.

Git / GitHub : Version control and workflow best practices.

Nice to Have

AWS Certification (Associate or Professional level preferred)
