Overview
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) CT offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients. They operate in accordance with established protocols, state guidelines, and under the supervision of the site Medical Director and other site Physicians. In addition to providing necessary medical care, they also document their services and communicate any scheduling changes or need for coverage to the appropriate parties.
Responsibilities
- Conducts on-site chronic care clinics and sick call, as well as infirmary rounds as established by Site Medical Director, Health Services Administrator or designee.
- Provides emergency treatment and responds to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
- Prescribes and documents patient care in adherence to existing policies and procedures, utilizing available in-house resources before off-site referral, if possible.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals.
- Communicates with Medical Director or Health Services Administrator regarding patient care goals, lack of appropriate referrals, or necessary nursing or medical interventions. Additionally, provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested.
Qualifications
EducationA graduate of an accredited school of nursingAn advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.ExperiencePrior medical / surgical and / or emergency / trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.Licenses / CertificationsMust have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
