The Impact Finance & Markets (IFM) division at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) provides technical and strategic leadership to create transformational impact with the private sector by translating the value of nature and conservation approaches into actionable science-based strategies that can help solve societal challenges. Sitting in the Global Carbon Markets team one of four teams in the IFM Division the Carbon Markets Assistant helps scale finance in natural climate solutions (NCS) through influencing public and corporate policy and practices.

The Carbon Markets Assistant will help to establish and communicate supply and demand best practices around governmental and corporate engagement in the voluntary and international carbon markets. The Assistant will perform research coordinate projects draft written technical materials and engage stakeholders around NCS carbon market trends policies and norms.

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity and is within 6 hours of Eastern Time taking into consideration legal restrictions such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times.

Were Looking for You :

The Carbon Markets Assistant independently manages projects conducts research drafts written technical materials and communicates with internal and external stakeholders. They will lead team coordination and operational project management efforts to ensure the team meets its objectives. They will execute desk-top research to inform the teams thought leadership produce written materials synthesizing market developments and inform the teams stakeholder engagement efforts. They will assist in conducting stakeholder outreach to promote TNCs thought leadership and coordinate interorganizational efforts. Responsibilities and scope include :

Works within scope of TNCs strategic goals to influence the outcome of policy and / or corporate initiatives in voluntary compliance and international carbon markets.

Manages projects across teams and organizations with responsibility for discrete areas of work including delivering against deadlines.

Leads the coordination of the internal TNC committee in charge of reviewing TNC-led carbon projects and corresponding crediting standards and methodologies.

Produces qualitative research and analysis to inform corporate and / or policy decisions related to NCS carbon markets.

Drafts materials including presentations memos and other communications to convey research findings.

Communicates and collaborates with external stakeholders to stay up to date on market developments and trends promote TNCs thought leadership and coordinate market influence efforts.

Ensures project compliance with internal policies and external requirements.

Works independently working with supervisor on complex matters as needed.

What Youll Bring :

Bachelors degree in environmental studies environmental sciences or related field and a minimum of 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination.

Fluency in English.

Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.

Experience in independent project management with minimal oversight.

Experience writing and synthesizing technical and scientific informational material.

Experience presenting and communicating technical subjects with internal and external audiences.

Desired Qualifications :

Experience or coursework with voluntary compliance and international carbon markets and pricing schemes and the role of NCS in these mechanisms strongly preferred.

Multi-lingual skills favoring French and / or Portuguese and multi-cultural experience appreciated.

Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization working across teams operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.

Experience working with nonprofits government agencies and / or corporates on climate issues especially around NCS.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Salary Information :

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity taking into consideration legal restrictions such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of US $55000 - $73780 for annual base salary and is based on location qualifications specific skills and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants pay ranges will be in local currency the pay range will be based on the local labor market and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally for all applicants actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including for example the candidates qualifications specific skills and experience.
