Description :

The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.

This includes executing provider's orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting providers in examinations and treatment of patients.

The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of individuals.

The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure.

Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the treatment of individuals.

The RN attends sick calls with the physician, prepares lists of individuals to be examined, and prepares examining rooms and equipment.

The RN operates pill calls, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures.

The RN calls providers for medication and treatment orders and attends to other emergencies.

The RN examines and assesses new individuals with illnesses or injuries or those who become ill or injured.

The RN refers individuals to emergency rooms or other appropriate healthcare facilities as required.

The RN performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies providers for treatment orders.

Assistance is given in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.

The RN monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate.

Guidance is provided to supervise and monitor nursing care delivered by licensed vocational and non-licensed medical staff.

A good working relationship is maintained with facility staff, nursing staff, and provider agencies.

Established corporate and facility policies and procedures are utilized in decision-making, while sound independent judgment is applied.

Regular evaluation of the provision of medical services is conducted to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services.

Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records is maintained.

Assistance is provided to review medical files to ensure all provided services are documented.

The RN closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.

Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary as directed or required.

Compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, particularly regarding controlled substances, is maintained.

Individual and group health counseling and health education is provided as required.

Assistance is given to prepare and maintain a variety of standard records, reports, and logs.

The RN reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents.

Responses to legal matters are processed, and attendance at court hearings is conducted when necessary.

Facilitation of accreditation for the medical program by providing approved medical services is carried out where applicable.

Safety and accident reports are prepared and disseminated as required by policies and procedures.

The RN takes appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
