Basic Qualifications Required Education and Licensure
• Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited university (Master's in FPE or related field preferred).
• Professional Engineer License (preferably in Fire Protection Engineering; CA PE required for Senior roles).
• Experience in design, construction, and/or consulting of fire protection systems
• Full awareness and working knowledge of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & Standards.
• Proven experience with performance-based design and alternate means and methods approaches.
• OSHA compliance experience and familiarity with codes and standards development (NFPA, ASTM, ICC, CFR, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills and willingness to travel for project support.
• Working knowledge and experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Ability to lead project design teams.
Preferred Qualifications Desired Qualifications
• NFPA – CFPS Certification.
• Master's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field and/or MBA.
• Specific experience with theme parks, resort hotels, and mixed-use facilities.
• Mechanical Plumbing experience with backflow prevention analysis.
• Knowledgeable in the use and application of computer modeling tools for fire and smoke spread and timed egress analysis.
• Experience with codes and standards development, including committee involvement.
• Experience with fire testing and regulatory application of fire test methods to building materials.

Description/Comment:At Disney Parks Experiences and Products, our mission is to "create happiness.” As a Fire Protection Engineer within Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE), you will provide subject matter expertise in fire protection, life safety, building and fire codes, fire hazard and risk assessment, and related engineering disciplines. You will support a diverse range of projects throughout the Disneyland Resort and ancillary properties, including Attractions, Maintenance, Foods, Merchandise, Entertainment, and utility-based assets. Projects range from minor renovations to new construction and immediate response efforts.
You will act as the Owner's Technical Representative, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance with Disney design standards, local and state codes, and best practices for fire and life safety. This role involves close coordination with other engineering disciplines and project teams.
You will report to the A&FE MEP Engineering Sr. Manager.
Leadership
• Serve as Owner's Technical Representative on projects from concept through sustainment.
• Provide technical expertise for engineering issues, design management, code compliance, and life cycle cost analysis.
Management
• Manage the design and development of contract documents with in-house and outside resources to meet project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
• Coordinate design activities and monitor field installations and demolition work for compliance with specifications and code requirements.
• Review system designs, drawings, calculations, and submittals for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
• Recommend system improvements, enhancements, and replacements.
Technical Skills
• Develop concept designs and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
• Review drawings, engineering calculations, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and statutes.
• Review shop drawing submittals and respond to vendor requests for information.
• Provide field engineering support, technical input for inspection, testing, and maintenance, and troubleshooting for system downtime.
• Conduct fire hazard assessments, root cause and failure analysis, and general consulting on fire/life safety issues.
• Perform site visits to resolve issues and minimize schedule impacts.
Relationship
• Partner with internal teams to develop, maintain, and enforce Disney design guidelines, standards, master specifications, and details.
• Assist Project and Design Managers in resolving design compliance issues.
• Validate that all item specifications are consistent with installed products before archiving manuals.
• Build enhanced communications and expectations to successfully execute all projects.
