Shelter Youth and Family Services encourages the application of all bilingual applicants to work with our client community. Applicants who can successfully certify their skill level in reading, speaking, and writing in two languages with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services may receive an additional salary stipend. Certification testing is set by DCFS.

Job Overview

The Foster Care Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Foster Care Program. The Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of the Foster Care Caseworkers to ensure all DCFS Performance Standards are met for all youth. The Foster Care / Emergency Foster Care Supervisor reports to the Foster Care Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and guidance of foster care / emergency foster care placements, including the direct supervision of case workers.
• Manage and guide case workers through crisis situations.
• Responsible for overall coordination of intake services for Foster Care placements.
• Work with all youth and families to provide any necessary resources to stabilize the placement and ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child.
• Refer and link youth and their families to services or community opportunities.
• Assist in the recruiting and training of emergency foster homes
• Provide on-call crisis response and backup for team members in the community when needed.
• Monitor program effectiveness to develop methods to enhance quality of services.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation.
• Follow all IL DCFS and Child Welfare code of ethics.
• For Emergency Foster Care Staff- work under a Wraparound Services model.
• Follow a strengths-based, person-centered model.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of IDCFS policies and procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.

Work is performed primarily in the agency facilities, and occasionally in vehicles, meeting rooms both in the facility and at other agency sites.

A Federal background search with the FBI and Illinois State Police is conducted for all positions. This is conducted through DCFS (Illinois Department of Children and Family Services). You must also be willing to be vaccinated or provide proof of vaccination against the COVID-19 virus, submit your school transcripts from the last school that you attended, complete a general physical with a TB (tuberculosis) test, provide a copy of your current driver's license and a copy of your current proof of auto insurance. You may be asked to provide proof of certification in CPR, CPI, Think Trauma or be willing to be trained in these areas.
