Lead Security Officer

The Lead Security Officer serves as the primary security authority at the Houston facility, overseeing daily security operations, coordinating emergency responses, and ensuring compliance with federal and facility-specific protocols. This role leads a team of security officers maintains a secure and customer-focused environment across the terminal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Leads and coordinates daily security operations, ensuring full coverage and adherence to post orders and the Facility Security Plan (FSP).
- Oversees access control, verifying credentials of visitors and vendors.
- Patrols terminal grounds, inspecting doors, gates, and fences to ensure safety and security.
- Responds to incidents, escorts emergency vehicles, and maintains clear access paths during emergencies.
- Monitors and reports irregularities, including unauthorized access, equipment damage, or safety hazards.
- Ensures proper handling and safekeeping of Sensitive Security Information (SSI) materials.
- Supports compliance with TWIC program and Texas Guard Card requirements.
- Maintains operational logs and incident reports, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Delivers excellent customer service to clients, terminal staff, vendors, and vessel crews.
- Trains and mentors security officers, reinforcing safety protocols and professional standards.
- Coordinates with management on staffing, scheduling, and procedural updates.
- Performance Goal : Ensure 100% coverage of scheduled patrols and access control posts, with zero missed incident reports or compliance violations monthly.
- Maintains availability for rotating shifts, including overnight and holiday coverage.
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Qualifications :
Education : High School Diploma or GED required.Experience :Prior experience in maritime or port security operations.
Experience conducting emergency response coordination and vessel boarding procedures.Licenses : Valid drivers license; ability to obtain or maintain valid TWIC card and state security license.Age : Must be at least 23 years of age to operate company or client motor vehicle.Knowledge :Familiarity with TWIC program, MAERSK security levels, and Facility Security Plan (FSP) provisions.
Understanding of AED operation, physical screening methods, and railroad procedures.Skills :Strong observational and incident reporting skills.
Ability to communicate professionally with government agencies, CBP, and facility personnel.Proficiency in maintaining logs and executing emergency protocols.Preferred :
Additional Experiences :Experience in law enforcement, military service, or port authority security.
Prior work in high-security or regulated environments.Certifications : MTSA or maritime security training (provided by company).Knowledge : Familiarity with vessel documentation procedures and CBP coordination.Skills : Conflict resolution, and emergency response leadership.Physical Demands & Work Environment :
Physical Demands : The physical demands described here represent those that are typically required to perform the essential functions of this position. This role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk and drive for extended periods, including frequent movement between work areas. Must inspect identification documents, operate radios and surveillance equipment, and communicate clearly. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. The role also requires the ability to bend at the waist, bend to one knee, reach from ground to shoulder level, and reach overhead. Visual focus and basic computer and writing skills are essential.Work Environment : Work may be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including active job sites with varying weather conditions and potential exposure to noise, dust, and other occupational hazards. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) are provided and required as appropriate.
