Support Enforcement Specialist, Northern Virginia District

Job Summary

This position serves as a Support Enforcement Specialist (SES) , responsible for managing assigned child support cases and engaging families to ensure they receive the financial and emotional support needed to help children grow and thrive. The role requires building positive relationships with both custodial and noncustodial parents, enforcing child support obligations, and connecting families with resources that promote self-sufficiency and active parental involvement.

The position involves managing a large and complex caseload, requiring effective communication, case management, and problem-solving skills to influence compliance and achieve successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Locate noncustodial parents and establish paternity.

Collaborate with other state and international child support agencies.

Determine and assess child support obligations and health care coverage.

Ensure compliance with child and medical support orders through administrative or judicial enforcement actions.

Provide testimony in court proceedings when required.

Engage and support parents in meeting their obligations through proactive communication and relationship-building.

Research, analyze, and follow up on accounts to verify accuracy and compliance with established protocols.

Deliver a high level of customer service while addressing inquiries and maximizing payment collection efforts.

Handle sensitive case information, including legal, financial, and personal data, with confidentiality and professionalism.

Work collaboratively across teams to foster a culture of cooperation and support.

Manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, detail-oriented work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to interact effectively with a diverse public, demonstrating tact and professionalism in challenging situations.

Strong interviewing, information-gathering, and analytical skills to assess case information and determine appropriate actions.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a caseload environment.

Proficiency in interpreting and applying laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and achieve outcomes.

Skill in using remote access technology, email, automated information systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong communication, listening, and negotiation skills, with the ability to write clearly and speak effectively.

Basic mathematical skills for calculating and verifying financial data.

Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully as part of a team to achieve shared goals.

Additional Considerations

Comprehensive knowledge of child support enforcement principles and practices.

Experience gathering and organizing client documentation to process financial transactions.
