Position Title : Construction Estimating Manager

Pay Range : $130,000+ per year

David Hall Masonry, Inc. is looking for an experienced and detail-driven Construction Estimating Manager to lead our expanding Estimating Department. In this leadership role, you will oversee a team of 3-4 Estimators, guiding the preparation of accurate and timely bid proposals, managing change orders, and ensuring strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams. Reporting directly to the Company President, the Estimating Manager is responsible for the full estimating lifecycle—from bid strategy and budget tracking to standardization of estimating procedures. You will play a critical role in winning new work and supporting project success by delivering well-coordinated, competitive estimates that reflect high standards of craftsmanship and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development

Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing estimating team to achieve objectives and drive continuous improvement.

  • Review and evaluate the accuracy and performance of junior estimators, providing ongoing mentorship and feedback.
  • Manage department KPIs and assess the performance of direct reports regularly.
  • Bid Management & Oversight
  • Evaluate bid invitations and assign estimating projects to team members.

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate, competitive bid proposals.
  • Revise estimates as needed and ensure updates are implemented consistently.
  • Coordinate input from various departments, subcontractors, and suppliers to develop complete proposals.
  • Monitor proposal formats and ensure compliance with client requirements and internal standards.
  • Maintain and manage bid log and estimating database for tracking and historical reference.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the proposal stage.

  • Maintain strong client relationships and identify opportunities for future business.
  • Participate in pre- and post-bid meetings and coordinate with the President on strategic decisions.
  • Review awarded contracts against bid documents and advise the President prior to execution.
  • Process & Quality Control
  • Ensure a robust and standardized estimating process to meet project requirements and quality standards.

  • Conduct desk reviews to confirm estimators have proper documentation to begin work (Contracts, LOIs, Proposals).
  • Track change orders and manage documentation in Procore; coordinate material submittals, procurement, and scheduling with Operations.
  • Support handoff to Project Management when projects are awarded.
  • Cost Analysis & Optimization
  • Review supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure alignment with internal cost expectations.

  • Analyze data for cost efficiencies, identify improvement opportunities, and apply cost engineering techniques to support operational efficiency and reduce project costs.
  • Monitor economic trends, assess risk, and factor cost implications into estimating strategy.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with building permit submissions as needed.

  • Promote company services to existing and prospective clients.
  • Qualifications

  • Experience & Education
  • Must have 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or a related leadership role.

  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional coursework in construction management or business is a plus.
  • Leadership & Team Management
  • Strong leadership abilities with proven experience mentoring and developing estimating teams.

  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication & Client Relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Client-focused approach with the ability to present proposals, lead meetings, and build lasting relationships.
  • Analytical & Technical Expertise
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills for assembling, reviewing, and managing complex numerical data.

  • Attention to detail with the ability to evaluate and approve bid proposals and change orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage supplier relationships and adapt to shifting material lead times.
  • Regulatory & Documentation Proficiency
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, architectural plans, and government regulations.

  • Competent in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation.
  • Software & Technology Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.

  • Advanced experience with On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, and Procore.
  • Industry Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry standards, best practices, and cost estimating methodologies; strong research, proposal development, and oral presentation capabilities.
