Position Overview

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is seeking a part time or full time Building Decarbonization Fellow for the first half of 2026 (January through June). The Building Decarbonization Fellow will support programs to decarbonize buildings in accordance with the Commonwealth’s Clean Energy and Climate Plan. This position will focus on fostering the decarbonization of energy use in buildings through MassCEC’s building decarbonization efforts. These programs pilot building decarbonization solutions, provide grants, rebates, and technical assistance to help Massachusetts homeowners and businesses install clean heating and cooling systems, electrify building end uses, and improve thermal performance of buildings, all while expanding access of clean and affordable energy to low- and moderate-income residents. The role will include assisting MassCEC in developing and launching new building decarbonization initiatives.

The fellowship program at MassCEC includes various educational and networking opportunities, including :

• In depth overview presentations from senior staff;
• Lunch-time tech talks and brown bag presentations;
• Guided tour of the Wind Technology Testing Center; and
• Other industry related events.

Job Duties

Position Qualifications

This is an entry level position and interested applicants are encouraged to apply despite lack of background or experience in the field.

Education

The candidate will be a college undergraduate (sophomore or higher) or graduate student, preferably pursuing a degree in science, environmental studies, business administration, or public policy. Recent graduates or candidates that are early in their career will also be considered.

Timing and Location

MassCEC is looking for a fellow who can start in January 2026 and continue at least through the end of June 2026 on a full or part time basis. Applicants should be available to work at least 15 hours per week up to 40 hours per week. The number of hours worked per week may vary over the course of the fellowship based on the applicant’s schedule and MassCEC’s workload. MassCEC prefers candidates that are able to start on January 12, 2026.

MassCEC staff work on a hybrid model : part time in our downtown Boston office and part time remote. We are open to considering a candidate that would like to work fully remotely. Candidate must be able to come into our office for their first and last days.

Supervision

The fellow will work under the supervision of the Buildings team staff at MassCEC.

Salary

The intern will earn $20 per hour and be eligible to work for 40 hours per week.
