MHA – Mental Health Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people live their best life. About the Division of Supportive Housing (DSH)

MHA’s Division of Supportive Housing (DSH) provides safe, stable housing and individualized wraparound services for individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness. Many of the people we serve are also navigating challenges related to substance use, incarceration, or trauma.

DSH programs are designed to support long-term stability and help individuals successfully transition to independent, permanent housing. Through person-centered care, housing navigation, and community-based supports, we empower each individual to build a foundation for recovery, self-sufficiency, and a better quality of life.

Position Summary

The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC I or LADC II) provides direct clinical support to individuals living with co-occurring substance use and mental health needs. Using a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and person-centered approach, the counselor supports participants in implementing strategies to maintain safety, connecting with appropriate treatment resources as desired, strengthening coping skills, managing crises, pursuing goals as indicated in treatment plans, etc. The counselor will complete comprehensive assessments, risk assessments, and safety plans, and work collaboratively with participants to develop and implement Individualized Action Plans.

Pay Range : $60,000-63,000 annually

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation, including intake and annual assessments, in compliance with agency and funder standards.
  • Develop and regularly update Individualized Action Plans (IAPs) in collaboration with participants and the Housing First team.
  • Coordinate care with internal staff and external providers to ensure integrated and continuous support for participants.
  • Act as the primary liaison for participants accessing psychiatric and substance use treatment services.
  • Use Motivational Interviewing and a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to engage and support participants.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide education, advocacy, and encouragement throughout their recovery journey.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to support program goals and participant success.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and required trainings to support professional development and licensure.
  • Utilize electronic health records and communication systems to document and report participant updates and incidents.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment while following all safety, documentation, and confidentiality policies

Requirements

  • Candidate must be Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC I or LADC II)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders and housing instability.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and adequate auto insurance.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and able to obtain / maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Must be bilingual in English / Spanish
