Your Specific Responsibilities :

This is a Career Service position as a Senior Public Health Nutritionist with the Department of Health in Hendry and Glades Counties (FDOH- Hendry and Glades) and is responsible for administering and coordinating activities related to breastfeeding support, education and promotion consistent with state and federal regulations (DHM 150-24). The imcumbent is expected to collaborate with community partners and programs within the Florida Department of Health. Employee plans and provides comprehensive nutrition care and education services within the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) in health clinics and other community settings. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Nutritionist Program Director. The incumbent is expected to work with a high degree of independence and must be relied upon to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA guidelines, while providing excellent customer service. This position reports to the Public Health Nutritionist Program Director and Headquatered in Clewiston.

NUTRITION :

Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client using the VENA concept to provide appropriate nutritional counseling. Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk / medical high-risk care plan using the SOAP format. As necessary, refers client to appropriate outside agency, documenting referral. Assigns appropriate food packages. Completes May conduct a group nutrition educaiton class. FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided. As needed : Performs anthropometric measurements and hematological testing for WIC clients following DHM 150-24 rules and regulations. Determines client eligibility. Provides interactive newsletter contact. Adheres to all WIC regulations, policies and procedures set forth in DHM 150-24.

BREASTFEEDING :

Performs duties as the WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator. Obtains and maintains credentials as a CLC, to be designated as a breastfeeding expert. Acts as one of the lead contact persons for breastfeeding support and promotion activities. Refers WIC participants to appropriate WIC staff, comunnity agency, organization and / or health care provider. Assists Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator in recruiting, training, and mentoring WIC Breastfeeding Counselors. Provides Breastfeeding outreach services as assigned. Participates in monthly state Breasfeeding Coordinator conference calls. Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breastpumps per Local Agency guidelines. Provides breastfeeding education to all pregnant clients served. Coordinate and track all prenatal clients; assigning WIC clients to Breastfeeding Peer Counselors; responsible for ensuring all breastfeeding clients have access to timely, skilled postpartum breastfeeding support. Conducts group breastfeeding education class as needed. When applicable, submits the WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence Application and makes every effort to qualify for the award. Monitors WIC Staff documentation for clients who have been issued breastfeeding equipment monthly or as needed. Provides on-going and annual breastfeeding training for local WIC staff.

ADMINISTRATION :

Complies with the mandatory requirements of Section 215.422, Florida Statutes and Chapter 691-24, Florida Administrative Code. Attends staff meetings, trainings and staff development activities as required. Participates in end of the month inventory. Participates in quarterly WIC Quality Assurance monitoring using monitoring tools. Accurately and promptly completes all administrative forms, including but not limited to timesheets, employee activity reports (EARS), and travel forms. Provides professional and administrative support to Nutrition Program Director. Completes assigned administrative projects and assigned reports in a timely fashion

OTHER : Fosters a positive environment for promoting breastfeeding as the norm and preferred method of infant feeding. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.All employees are also required to have periodic screening for tuberculosis infection. Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition and dietetics.

Knowledge of prenatal, breastfeeding, postpartum, infant and children nutrition.

Knowledge of the concepts and theories of preventative health care, the current science and practice of nutrition.

Knowledge of breastfeeding benefits and ability to promote and educate on it.

Knowledge of Statutes and Rules and Regulations that pertain to the WIC program.

Knowledge of principles, practices & office procedures.

Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation & grammar usage.

Knowledge of standard business formats & styles for letters & business forms.

Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.

Knowledge of the principles & techniques of records management.

Knowledge of planning principles & techniques.

Skill in operating a personal computer and operating within FL-WiSE for daily clinic function.

Skill in basic lactation management.

Ability to work with a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

Ability to develop educational / training plans and support materials.

Ability to use various communication channels to provide education / training.

Ability to interview and counsel clients.

Ability to provide nutrition education for individuals and groups.

Ability to assess nutritional status and develop basic and high-risk care plans.

Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness.

Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications :

Required :

1-3 years professional working experience as a Licensed Dietitian / Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian.

Bachelor's degree or higher in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Licensed Dietitian / Nutritionist - Incumbents must meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 64B8-40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code.

Have a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.

Professional work experience helping mothers with lactation management.

Willing to work before, during and / or beyond normal work hours in the event of a disaster or as needed. EMERGENCY DUTY : Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural.
