The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) seeks a qualified individual to serve as a Technical Coordinator 1. This position is a technical coordination role that supports the planning, design, and program management aspects of transportation projects across the state. The Technical Coordinator 1 works closely with engineering, procurement, and field operations teams, providing analytical, reporting, and technical drawing support for TDOT projects.
Location : Harriman, TN
Salary : $61,200 – $76,476 annually ($5,100 – $6,373 monthly)
Qualifications
- An associate's or bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline and three (3) years of demonstrated competency in a related technical discipline; OR
- High school graduate with five (5) years of demonstrated competency in a related technical discipline.
- Class D driver's license (valid in Tennessee); and optionally Class A commercial driver's license with N endorsement (no Code O restriction) within 11 months of hire or promotion.
Necessary Special Qualifications
Class D driver's license valid to operate vehicles in Tennessee.Class A Commercial Driver's License with an N endorsement (Code 52 restriction allowable) obtained at own expense within 11 months of hire.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
Knowledge of the MUTCD and laboratory safety procedures.Knowledge of required environmental procedures and contract administration.Skilled in report and form writing and objective decision making.Ability to communicate effectively, follow verbal and written instructions, use computers and applicable systems.Ability to analyze processes and provide actionable feedback for process improvement.Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and provide strong customer service to internal and external customers.Conditions of Employment
Pass a drug test prior to employment for positions requiring a CDL; subject to additional testing during employment.May be required to work overtime, weekends, or night shifts.Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and in or around construction and vehicular traffic.Walk on uneven terrain, climb ladders and scaffolding, carry equipment exceeding 25 pounds, drive long distances, and wear personal protective equipment as required.Responsibilities
The TDOT Technical Coordinator 1 may perform a wide range of project and field tasks. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Conducting project-specific research and developing estimates and schedules.Performing documentation close-outs for federal and state agencies.Analyzing data sets, developing transportation infrastructure reports, specifications, and plans.Reading, interpreting, and applying federal and state statutes related to transportation activities.Conducting field inspections, reviewing and approving progress reports, and completing invoicing and payments to consultants and vendors.Performing laboratory sampling and testing, operating survey equipment, and performing calculations to meet ASTM, AASHTO, and departmental specifications.Developing and implementing traffic control and work zone safety plans per MUTCD and TDOT policies, ensuring compliance with work site safety plans, and operating snow and ice removal vehicles.Additional duties and up to 25% travel may be required.
