Job Title : Fire Protection Technician
Location : Newark Airport Terminal A
Department : Facilities Maintenance
Job Summary : The Fire Protection Technician plays a key role within the Facilities Management team to support the Fire Protection Systems within Terminal A. The Facilities Maintenance Fire Protection Technician will maintain fire protection systems and be the first investigator for all fire alarms as well as the primary point of contact for both internal and external customers. You will be part of the Munich Facilities Maintenance department operating at Newark Airport Terminal A twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and will work within the facilities maintenance department and our contractors to maintain the terminal.
Responsibilities :
Conducting regular inspections and tests of the fire protection systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and in compliance with NFPA standards. You will also perform emergency troubleshooting and repairs as needed, identifying and addressing any code violations or non-conformance issues.
This involves being the initial responder to any fire alarms or issues with the fire protection systems. You will assess the situation, determine the cause of the alarm, and take appropriate action to resolve the issue. This may include operating the fire protection systems and FACP to ensure the safety of the terminal.
Ability to understand and interpret technical documents, including blueprints, submittals, and product manuals, to effectively maintain and troubleshoot the fire protection systems.
This involves creating and maintaining schedules for planned maintenance activities, ensuring that all necessary work orders completed, and keep stakeholders informed of the status of maintenance activities and deficiencies.
Overseeing the execution of maintenance work orders, receiving and reviewing reports on completed work, and ensuring that all information is accurately logged into the CMMS system (Maximo).
Requires effective communication and collaboration with other stakeholders when an event or issue requires their involvement.
Includes ensuring that both scheduled and unscheduled inspections and work are conducted as required to maintain the fire protection systems.
This involves tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure compliance with established standards and performance metrics.
This involves preparing and issuing reports on a daily or shift basis to provide updates on maintenance activities, issues, and performance metrics.
This involves monitoring the status of the Fire Alarm Software & Building Management Systems (BMS, SCADA and taking appropriate action to address any faults or issues that arise, including issuing and managing corrective work orders.
This requires flexibility to work different FM positions and shifts as needed, including covering for other team members during paid time off (PTO) or vacations.
Qualifications :
Familiarity with NFPA or willingness to learn :
1. Fire Alarm & Detection Systems
(Covers installation, testing, maintenance, and performance of fire alarm systems, including emergency voice / alarm communication systems [EVACS].)
2. Fire Sprinkler & Water-Based Suppression Systems
(Maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems.)
3. Special Fire Suppression Systems
4. Portable Fire Extinguishers
(Requirements for selection, placement, inspection, and maintenance of fire extinguishers.)
5. Fire Alarm & Emergency Communication Systems
