Responsibilities :
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Controls Maintenance Technician to join our client's team. The Controls Maintenance Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, validating, and maintaining production equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with company quality standards. This role supports the Process Services Maintenance Department in maintaining reliable operations of both in-house and purchased machinery.
- Maintain and troubleshoot production equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems.
- Use CAD and PLC programming software to debug, power up, and validate machines in collaboration with build and electrical teams.
- Train and support maintenance technicians on control applications and other technical topics.
- Ensure all equipment meets company specifications and adheres to standard programming and design techniques.
- Stay current with advances in hardware and software relevant to the company’s operations.
- Review and update departmental hardware and software; recommend and implement upgrades or new equipment as needed.
- Determine appropriate spare parts for new and purchased equipment using bills of materials and historical data.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records within the company network and ensure all file or program changes are communicated across departments.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime using TPM or OEE methods.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, coordinating repairs to minimize downtime.
- Inspect production machines to ensure compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot robotics, servo systems, motion controllers, HMIs, and related components.
- Coordinate installation or relocation of machinery with manufacturing and operations teams.
- Collaborate with OEMs or contractors for complex troubleshooting and repairs.
- Recommend process or equipment improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
Location : Grand Rapids, MI
Schedule / Shift Details : Third Shift, 10 : 30PM-7 : 30AM, Sunday-Thursday
Qualifications :
Post-high school education desirable; college or trade school preferredStrong verbal communication skillsSolid record-keeping abilityMinimum 5 years of machine maintenance experienceAt least 1 year of experience working with controlsSkilled in electrical troubleshooting and performing electrical maintenance on equipmentAbility to read, follow, and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings, blueprints, schematics, and code requirementsKnowledge of service manuals and manufacturers’ specificationsExperience using CAD software and PLC programming / troubleshootingAbility to read and understand advanced electrical prints and schematics for complex repairs or equipment installationProficient with Allen Bradley PLCs and Rockwell programming software (RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, and Panelbuild32)Experience with servo systems, variable speed drive controllers, and both AC / DC motorsSkilled in programming and troubleshooting industrial robots such as Fanuc and ABBStrong mechanical, electrical, and software aptitudeAbility to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manualsStrong writing skills for routine reports and correspondenceComfortable speaking before groups of employees or customersAbility to apply practical reasoning to interpret written, oral, or diagram instructions and resolve problems in standardized situationsAbility to lift up to 50 poundsBenefits :
