Senior Manager Of Business Intelligence

The Senior Manager of Business Intelligence will lead a team responsible for developing and implementing a self-service, highly democratized, business-intelligence environment where curiosity and insights to drive decision-making can thrive. This role will inspire engagement with data and analytics across the organization by designing easy-to-use and documented data models, standardizing semantic layers, building fit-for-purpose visualizations, training and mentoring functional PowerUsers, spearheading new initiatives, auditing and insisting on data quality and accuracy.

Specific Responsibilities :

  • Develop and implement a company-wide strategy for business intelligence and data management. Provide regular updates on progress across the business to the Executive Leadership Team, including project plans, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable and automated business intelligence solutions for wide-ranging functional stakeholders including Finance, Supply Chain, Demand Planning, Merchandising, Sales, Marketing, Direct-to-Consumer and more.
  • Build and maintain a logical semantic layer which provides a unified, consolidated view of data across the organization, simplifying technical complexity for Business Users.
  • Document the data model with data dictionaries, architecture diagrams, metadata tags, key mappings and other tools to provide data navigation guidance for Business Users.
  • Lead efforts to normalize and standardize metrics, dimensions, hierarchies, groupings, and views across Business Units and functional areas to ensure consistency, clarity and accuracy.
  • Work closely with functional PowerUsers and other Business Stakeholders to document business intelligence requirements, structure projects, and then build informative, actionable, and repeatable reports, views, dashboards, and other forms of data visualizations to meet the requirements. Ensure accuracy with data quality and validation checks prior to deployment. Collaborate with Information Technology technical resources to make changes to the data warehouse as needed.
  • Assist Business Teams in automating manual or time-consuming reports and data combination processes.
  • Partner with the Executive Leadership Team and other senior leaders to design and implement high impact and broad-use business intelligence projects.
  • Assist in evaluating the value of external data sources as well as the ability to integrate these data sources with internal data.
  • Perform the role of liaison between the Business Teams and IT, efficiently translating between business and technical requirements and vice versa to facilitate understanding and progress.
  • Provide portfolio management and project management practices to ensure the right Business Intelligence projects are being prioritized and delivered. This includes engaging leadership to prioritize projects when resources are constrained, managing risks and issues, clearing roadblocks, defining and controlling scope, providing clear timelines and updates.
  • Be service oriented, providing excellent communication to the Executive Leadership Team, Functional Owners, PowerUsers, and all business intelligence stakeholders regarding progress on projects and new developments.
  • Establish, document, and maintain data quality standards and data governance processes, practices, policies, and guidelines. This includes training and leading cross-functional data stewards, designing and implementing change controls and data validation processes, and creating a trusted ecosystem for data accuracy.
  • Identify and help resolve underlying data issues with cross-functional business teams. Evaluate when data should be changed at the source or transformed later in the data warehouse or visualization tools.
  • Drive the democratization of data and adoption of self-service analytics, empowering teams to reduce bottlenecks to efficiently provisioning operational reporting, insights, analysis and decision support across the organization.
  • Be an evangelist for business intelligence, data management, and data science. Proactively engage functions to understand their data, analytics, and reporting needs. Work closely with functional PowerUsers to ensure progress on business intelligence projects. Monitor functional team usage of business intelligence tools, engage to broaden usage.
  • Lead PowerUser Group Meetings to facilitate best practice sharing in areas of business intelligence visualization, knowledge of the data model, project status updates, and data governance.
  • Be a thought-leader for business intelligence and data science, keep up to date with business intelligence tools, technologies, platforms, and capabilities.
  • Provide continuous corporate-wide and PowerUser training on visualization tools, the data model, and data management practices. Encourage curiosity and expand data literacy.
  • Lead the Business Intelligence Team, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, training, development, time management, prioritization, collaboration, communication, service orientation.

Qualifications and Competencies :

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years' experience in business analytical roles using business intelligence tools such as Sigma Computing, Tableau, PowerBI, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Looker, Thoughtspot, QuickSight, Cognos, Advanced Excel, MS Access, etc.
  • Experience in quantitative functions using large, complex datasets such as Finance, Planning / Forecasting, Supply Chain, Operations preferred.
  • A proven track record of delivering value-added and actionable insights through compelling visualizations including operational reports, exception reports, alerts, interactive views and dashboards.
  • Technically competent with data visualization tools and SQL, with a preference for light automation programming (i.e python), knowledge of ETL tools, and relational database design principles, particularly Snowflake.
  • Working knowledge of data science tools (e.g. Alteryx), techniques, and capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with senior leaders to understand their data needs and provide strategic insights.
  • Strong service-orientation and communication skills to ensure stakeholders know project status, risks, and roadblocks. High urgency to address issues in a timely manner.
  • High commercial and business acumen across a wide functional spectrum. Solid understanding of how metrics and dimensions connect across the organization and to overall business objectives.
  • Aptitude for designing and delivering training to broad audiences at different levels and different technical capabilities.
  • Hands-on leadership, strong bias for action, and pragmatism over perfectionism.
  • Proven ability to lead a team directly within a remote work environment and cross-functional teams indirectly without formal management authority.
  • Sufficient technical understanding to translate business needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
  • Ability and commitment to be a thought-leader for the organization in Business Intelligence and Data Science. Continuous learning through BI vendors, attending conferences, reading trade publications, and networking.
  • Comfortable working both independently with minimal supervision and closely in a team setting. Able to interpret business requirements and deliver on ambiguous projects.
  • Adaptability to changing requirements and the ability to be creative while maintaining detail-oriented rigor to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Project management experience is helpful, particularly meeting deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to promote the self-service Business Intelligence vision and drive engagement across the organization.
  • Highly analytical, technically inclined, curious, and logical.
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
