Reports To : Director of Health Information Management

Status : 80 hours per two week pay period

Shift : 8 : 00 am – 4 : 30 pm (Hours flexible once training is complete)

Job Schedule : Full time

Weekly Hours : 40 hours

Remote Position : Remote or Hybrid

Job Summary

Reviews the medical record to assign diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with the Standards of Ethical Coding as stated by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), in compliance with ICD10 coding guidelines, CMS guidelines and other regulatory requirements. These codes are used for billing, statistics and reporting data. Proper coding is essential to collecting optimal reimbursement for services.

Essential Job Functions

• ­Extract data from the medical record to apply ICD10 diagnosis, CPT, HCPCS and ICD10 PCS (inpatient only) codes.
• Will add charge codes for professional charges, medication administration and other services as needed. Most other charge codes are dropped via provider documentation.
• Comply with medical coding guidelines and policies.
• Identify documentation deficiencies and work with providers to resolve them.
• Work with the Patient Accounts department to resolve claim denials in a timely manner.
• Promotes and maintains confidentiality when dealing with data related to patients, providers, co-workers and any other facility information.
• Provide education and feedback to HRMC employees on workflows related to the medical record / coding process.
• ­Work with insurance follow-up staff to resolve denials.
