About the Job

As a Collections Specialist within our Operations team, you will play a key role in managing and resolving delinquent residential and commercial electric and natural gas accounts in the Alberta utility sector. You'll be responsible for ensuring timely payments, maintaining accurate customer records, and delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders. Your work will directly support our mission to provide reliable utility services while maintaining financial health and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Perform collection activities on overdue accounts, including contacting customers and negotiating payment plans.
Review and analyze customer accounts to determine appropriate collection actions, including service disconnection or balance transfers.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records and document all collection efforts in company systems.
Resolve customer inquiries and disputes related to billing and payment posting.
Monitor aging reports and prioritize accounts for follow-up.
Conduct skip tracing to locate customers with outdated contact information.
Process payments via credit card and bank draft.
Create account reconciliations and statements upon request.
Collaborate with internal teams and escalate special cases to management when necessary.
Ensure all collection activities comply with contractual guidelines and company policies.

Minimum Qualifications

2+ years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, or customer service, preferably in the utility sector.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently with high attention to detail and accuracy.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and customer account management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Alberta utility regulations and billing systems.

Familiarity with skip tracing tools and techniques.

Proven ability to manage high-volume accounts and meet performance targets.
